Position Summary:The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Family Medicine and Population Health is seeking a fulltime Qualitative and Community Engagement Research Associatein support of research activities in the Virginia Ambulatory Care Outcomes Research Network (ACORN) under the supervision of faculty member and medical anthropologist Dr. Marshall Brooks. Virginia ACORN is a collaborative partnership between a multidisciplinary team of researchers and primary care practices patients clinicians health systems and communities throughout Virginia devoted to evaluating and improving the quality of primary care and community health.

The Qualitative and Community Engagement Research Associatewill provide support to an interdisciplinary team of researchers conducting qualitative and mixedmethod studies on a range of topics including primary care practice improvement cancer prevention substance use and addiction mental health health disparities medical education and program evaluation. Duties will include assisting with participant recruitment conducting interviews and focus groups coding and analyzing data performing literature reviews and developing project related presentations reports and publications. Additional duties include participating in team meetings assisting with tracking project activities and providing administrative assistance to the team as needed. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work and occasional travel throughout Virginia.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate research activities including scheduling meetings and managing data
  • Conduct literature reviews and assist with writing research proposals
  • Assist with identifying recruiting and enrolling potential research participants
  • Assist with development of interview guides and other data collections instruments
  • Conduct interviews and focus groups either remotely (Zoom Teams phone or other platforms) and in person
  • Collect and manage audio recordings and transcripts
  • Analyze and interpret qualitative data
  • Assist with writing research reports and papers
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Standards:

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field and 3 years of professional experience or equivalent applicable combination of training education and experience required
  • Experience with qualitative research
  • Flexible hours working remotely and in person as necessary
  • Ability to work offhours to accommodate interviewees schedules
  • Ability to travel occasionally for inperson interviews and site visits
  • Valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively as the task requires
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Curiosity and creativity
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a relevant field
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with communitybased participatory research methods
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with health services research and/or implementation analysis
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software such as MAXQDA or
  • Familiarity with and experience using scientific literature databases such as PubMed
  • Professional experience with healthcare services research

This position will be open until filled.

This is a restricted position with no set end date; continued employment is dependent upon project need availability of funding and performance.
