1 Vacancy
Join a diverse interdisciplinary team seeking to understand the fundamental structure and function of neurons in health and disease.
The successful candidate will participate in research projects aimed at understanding functional compartmentalization of neurons. Our primary model is the vertebrate retina where neurons form a layered circuit important for processing visual information. The approaches used include quantitative live cell microscopy techniques such as high spatial and temporal resolution fluorescence relaxation after photoconversion (FRAP) fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) fluorescence anisotropy microscopy (FAIM) and various modes of super resolution microscopy including sptPALM. A variety of cell biological biochemical and molecular biological techniques are also employed. The candidate will be expected to bring expertise to the lab in at least one of the areas listed above. Candidates with experience in image acquisition and processing in ImageJ MetaMorph NIS Elements (Nikon) Zen Software (Zeiss) and/or Imaris are preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to learn if they dont already know quantitative fluorescence microscopy techniques in living cells including but not limited to computer coding for quantitative analysis (using MATLAB R or Python) cell culture molecular biology and the generation of transgenic model organisms. In addition to performing research duties the successful candidate will maintain several advanced fluorescence microscopes as well as train students and postdocs in their use. The candidate will also be expected to train students and postdocs in molecular and cell biology and protein biochemistry techniques. The candidate will be expected to assist the PI in writing grant proposals draft manuscripts and research animal protocols. The position will be offered for up to 2 years including a 3month evaluation period. After the 2year contract the position may be renewed. Employment throughout is contingent on available funds.
Doctoral degree in Cell Biology Biochemistry or Biophysics.
Minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral training or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific field is preferred.
Varies depending on experiments and agreed upon hours.
