- Completion of a post secondary education program (Degree or Diploma or equivalent) in Human Resources Labour Relations Law or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years of diversified and progressive human resources including a minimum of 3 years labour relations experience; an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience may be considered
- Experience providing labour relations advice to clients managing grievance disputes collective bargaining and/or providing interpretive advice regarding the application of collective agreements
Skills Required for Success:
- Ability to establish and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including unions clients and colleagues
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively support a diverse workforce in sensitive situations and deal with conflict
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to represent the employer and interpret and administer various collective agreements
- Computer proficiency and experience in Google applications and Human Resources Information Systems

Reporting to the Senior Lead Disputes and Advisory Services the Labour Relations Consultant is part of the high volume fastpaced team of professionals who provide a variety of labour and employment related services to the City of Edmonton. No day is the same in this role you will balance strong technical skills and experience with curiosity to solve problems and resolve conflict. With a focus on the City of Edmontons Cultural Commitments to Safe Helpful Accountable Integrated and Excellent you will:
- Provide expert labour relations advice to operational clients in the areas of performance management including with resetting performance expectations and disciplinary advice identifying and providing advice and strategies to balance risks and outcomes
- Facilitate the Dispute Resolution processes to resolve workplace disputes and interpersonal conflicts within the Working Relationship Agreement framework
- Manage grievance disputes to conclusion including representing the Citys interests in the application of dispute resolution techniques to resolve disputes between management and employees/unions
- Develop strong and effective relationships between the unit and unions through consultation open communication and collaboration
- Apply strong understanding of the 6 Citys Collective Agreements the Employment Standards Code and the Human Rights Act to provide clients with labour relations advice on a wide range of employment related matters identifying risks and providing advice and strategies to overcome risks
- Work closely with Disability Management Consultants and operational leaders in supporting efforts with employee accommodations and/or absences under the Citys Attendance Management Duty to Accommodate Programs and Drug and Alcohol Directives
- Perform other related duties as required
