Job Description
- Completion of the first year of a recognized Recreation Administration or related diploma or degree program with an emphasis on Education History Performing Arts Museum Studies (other educational backgrounds and equivalencies will also be considered)
- At least oneyear direct experience delivering related historical cultural interpretation recreational or educational programs
Assets:
- Previous supervisory experience including direct experience supervising staff in a recreational or educational setting
Skills required for success:
- Strong connection to Indigenous (First Nations Metis Inuit) communities knowledge and understanding of cultures artist practices histories and protocols
- Demonstrated ability or knowledge of education history drama or a related field
- Experience working with volunteers
- Experience planning developing and organizing special event activities
- Demonstrated ability or knowledge of education history drama or a related field
- Highly developed and demonstrable verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Indigenous histories and Western Canadian history

- Successful candidates must be willing to sign a media consent form in accordance with City and Fort Edmonton Park requirements
- Successful candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License or provincial equivalent and ability to obtain a City Drivers Permit considered as an asset
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificates are required prior to employment
- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector satisfactory to the City of Edmonton prior to employment
- Ability to work weekends holidays evenings as required
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

In this challenging and exciting role you will be a part of the Core Program team at Fort Edmonton Park. Our team works collaboratively to provide both authentic and unique experiences to our guests. Youll use your skills to help develop supervise and lead a team of Indigenous People Interpreters to deliver historical and cultural programming. Giving voice to Indigenous peoples histories and stories from the past which brings Edmontons rich history to life as told by Indigenous People themselves.
What will you do
- Recruit train schedule supervise and evaluate Historical Interpretation staff and volunteer
- Work with Indigenous Interpreters on site to support their work in engaging and teaching the public about Indigenous histories cultures and traditional skills
- Assist with the research and development of new stories and activities for the historical interpretive programs and special event activities for your assigned area. Oversee their implementation and evaluate their success
- Complete administrative tasks related to the interpretation program including scheduling staff submitting timesheets writing program reports and collecting statistical information
- Work as part of a team in training staff and peers in best practices related to museum interpretation of Indigenous narratives and supervising Indigenous staff
- Assist with supply maintenance and procurement
- Lead or assist with regular staff meetings for your assigned program area during the public operating season
- Provide assistance and direction to staff volunteers and visitors while acting as onsite supervisor
- Respond to visitor concerns first aid emergencies inquiries etc. as needed
- Coordinate and implement special projects as needed
- Participate in outreach and communitybuilding activities with Indigenous communities and groups in the Edmonton area
- Work with the Indigenous Relations unit as they collaborate with Indigenous communities and FEMCos MOU partners in the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations and the Metis Nation of Alberta
- Collaborate on special interpretive activations such as rentals and outreach offerings as needed
- Perform other duties as required
