- Three years Internal Medicine Residency required

In addition to their core expertise managing the clinical problems of acutely ill hospitalized patients hospitalist is responsible for:
- Admitting adult patients with medical problems for hospital stay.
- Giving prompt and complete attention to all patient care needs including diagnosis treatment and the performance of medical procedures (within their scope of practice).
- Collaborating communicating and coordinating with all physicians from other subspecialties and health care personnel caring for hospitalized patients.
- Attending and providing inpatient medicine consults and postoperative care to other medical and surgical specialties.
- Employing quality and processing improvement techniques.
- Conducting discharge planning and discharging patients.
- Safely transitioning patient care within the hospital and from the hospital to the community which may include oversight of care in postacute care facilities.
- Efficiently using hospital and health care resources.
- Training or supervising medical students residents and other health care professionals.
- Responding to and managing any Rapid Responses or Codes
- Assessing patients and developing appropriate plans as needed for any acute events of changes in patient status
- Coordinating with nursing staff and responding to questions/concerns as needed
- Providing appropriate handoff/signout at the conclusion of their shift to the day team
- Determine patients that require transfer to tertiary hospital and contacting PAL line to facilitate
