of Job Duties:This is a tenuretrack twelvemonth faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian / Assistant Professor or Associate Librarian / Associate Professor.

The University of Arkansas Libraries invite nominations and applications for the position of Science Librarian. The Libraries seek candidates who are receptive to and foster new ideas and who have demonstrated collaboration and open communication skills. Additional key attributes are the ability to establish and promote successful partnerships with other university departments provide excellent services and to adapt or develop programs and services that support positive change within the institution. This will be especially important as the main library Mullins Library debuts a major renovation of the first two floors.

As a member of the Research and Instruction Services team the Science Librarian liaises to particular programs and departments within the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and related interdisciplinary graduate programs in the Graduate School and International Education. This librarian works directly with disciplines in the physical sciences and related interdisciplinary programs creates and delivers innovative services to support the instruction and research needs of students and faculty and actively engages in relationship building with faculty and students as well as with university departments research teams and partner organizations. Responsibilities include library instruction research assistance support for systematic reviews and/or other types of evidence synthesis collection development and academic outreach. We seek candidates who embrace collaborative relationships with library colleagues and innovative thinking to cocreate and evaluate library programs and services as well as campus and community engagement initiatives.

With members of the Research and Instruction Services department the Science Librarian contributes to the Libraries online chat service. This librarian will work in close cooperation with colleagues across the Libraries and be responsible for ongoing development of online learning tools to creatively and actively promote physical and digital collections in alignment with curricular and research needs and we seek candidates with broad information literacy skills. The person in this position may also support the promotion and utilization of new spaces and services focused on innovative technologies available in the Experiential Learning department following the Mullins Library Renewal Phase 2 project. The work of the Science Librarian may include supervision of a Graduate Assistant.

Along with performance the responsibilities of this position include research and creative work and service in keeping with the faculty requirements of the University of Arkansas. This position reports to the Director of Research and Instruction Services.

Relocation allowance available. Benefits include TIAA or Fidelity Investments tuition reduction and health insurance. Annual leave starts at 15 days per calendar year and increases with years of service.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Library or Information Science from an ALAaccredited institution or equivalent institution

  • Demonstrated experience working in a library setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education professional background or subject matter expertise in the physical sciences or a related field

  • Experience providing public service through instruction/tutorials reference or external outreach/engagement in an academic or professional setting

  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical sciences or related information resources

  • Experience with or a willingness to learn how to conduct systematic reviews or other type(s) of evidence synthesis

  • Experience with or a willingness to learn collection development information curation or collection assessment

  • Knowledge of or a willingness to learn about the use of emerging technologies to support research teaching and learning

  • Knowledge of best practices in library pedagogy such as the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education

  • Familiarity with assessment methods and tools

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated service orientation

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and changing environment

  • Willingness to engage in faculty liaison activities such as outreach or engagement

  • Demonstrated initiative and flexibility

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability in working collaboratively with team members other colleagues and customers

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
