Full time: 35 hours per week

Fixed term: for 3 years

We seek applications for a PostdoctoralResearch Associate in the field of Astrophysical and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics. The successful candidate will join the research group led by Professor Steve Tobias at the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh.

The Opportunity:

The research goal of this position is to advance our understanding of the interaction of turbulent stratified rotating fluids with magnetic fields and to examine both the effect of magnetic field on the turbulence and the dynamo effect of the turbulence. The project will be primarily theoretical and computational.

This post is fulltime 35 hours per week); however we are open to considering parttime or flexible working patterns.We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a noncontractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular oncampus working.

The post is fixed term for 3 years with a start date ideally 1st October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary for this post is 40247 to 47874 per annum.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD (or near completion) in Mathematics Physics Astrophysics Geophysics or related subject.
  • Relevant research experience in theoretical and computational astrophysical and geophysical fluid dynamics with a record of highquality leadauthor and coauthored refereed journal publications (relative to career stage).
  • Capable of working independently exercising a high degree of initiative and with the ability to think creatively.
  • Good timekeeping and timemanagement with effective prioritisation of tasks.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly orally and in writing.
