Job Description

The Team

The Extended Play Team is the faculty support group that manages all after school programming and facilitates highquality play and robust learning engagement in the afternoons for ages PK2 (Age 2 through G5 (Grade 5.


The Lower School Role (KG5

The After School Extended Play Teacher is responsible for assisting with indoor and outdoor projects homework help games play and general safety/supervision of Preschool/Lower School students between the hours of 2:306:00 pm daily. Professional learning and team meetings are a routine part of the role. Work occurs on Mount Vernons Lower Campus (Preschool Lower School and various outdoor spaces) during the 10month school year AugustMay.


Lower School Responsibilities (KG5

  • Establish and maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment
  • Develop and facilitate interactive activities to engage students throughout the afternoon
  • Support students with supervision and homework assistance as needed
  • Maintain necessary housekeeping duties of the classrooms common use areas and playgrounds
  • Attend all required staff meetings professional learning experiences and/or related school functions 2 per month on average)
  • Facilitate Faculty Kids Camps in the two weeks prior to the start of school the week following the end of school and other days throughout the school year.
  • Hours: 2:00PM6:00PM MondayFriday (additional daytime hours may be available)

The Preschool Role (InfantsToddlers)

The Preschool Infant/Toddler Closer Role Care includes nurturing the physical social and emotional needs of each child MonFri 2:00 pm 6:00 pm in keeping with the childs schedule of eating playing napping etc.

Youll actively participate in professional growth opportunities & team meetings throughout the school year between August and May. Youll communicate with parents at pick up regarding any important information about their childs afternoon at school.


Preschool Infant/Toddler Closer Responsibilities:

  • Identify Childrens Interests and Needs and DescribeChildrens Progress

Requirements
  • Experience in a preschool afterschool or camp environment preferred
  • Background or interest in the field of education preferred
  • Strong written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to use sound judgment
  • Passion for working with children
  • Knowledge of the social emotional and creative needs (by age and stage) of the children you serve.
  • (InfantToddler Role) Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs child safety and potential emergency situations
