GENERAL PURPOSE





HIRING LATERAL POLICE OFFICERS!

Criteria for Lateral:
PPD: ILEA certified officer with at least 2 years of experience on a department in Indiana.

*Out of state applicants that do not have Indiana licensure hired as probationary pay and benefits until completed transfer or credentialing and then follow the above guidelines once criteria are met.

The Plainfield Metropolitan Police Department has fulltime openings. Plainfield Metropolitan Police Department is running a process for lateral transfers applicants only.

Please complete your online application at www.townofplainfield beginning March 11 2025. All required paperwork must be submitted with application or at checkin on the morning of the physical agility testing. You willNOTbe considered for further screening until all required paperwork is filedwith us.

The agility testing date has not yet been determined. You will be notified via email once your application has been processed and the testing date has been scheduled. The agility testing will take approximately 23 hours for all applicants to complete. You should not plan anything else that may conflict with completing the entire testing phase as there will be no exceptions! You should wear workout clothes to the test site as there will be no changing facilities available. Please bring or wear tennis shoes as there will be no street shoes permitted on the gym floor during the test.

Please be prompt as late arrivals will be denied access to the testing room. No applicants will be allowed to take the test without first calling in a reservation with Tina Foster at. You will then need to provide your name date of birth social security number and telephone number.

HIRING PROCESS From the date of the physical agility to the swearingin of the newly hired officer it takes approximately four months to complete the process.

  1. Agility Testing Pushups (minimum 24 in a minute); Situps (minimum 21; minimum 13.5 vertical jump; 300 meter run (maximum 82 seconds); 1.5 mile run (maximum 18 minutes & 56 seconds). Applicant must pass each phase of the agility test. The agility test will take approximately 23 hours to complete.   2. Oral Review Board A onehour interview before a board of supervisors and each applicant will be asked a series of standard questions. Applicants must score a 70 or higher to pass.
  3. Background Investigation Extensive background investigation on applicants personal educational professional criminal medical and financial background. Also included is a truth verification exam (CVSA). Applicants who have been fired from more than one job in last five years; falsified application information; or received warnings from past employers for absenteeism tardiness or any disciplinary action more than two times will not be eligible. Any applicant whose employee records and/or disciplinary files have been sealed or expunged will not be eligible. Applicants who have stolen cash or merchandise from past employers in the last five years are not eligible. Any applicant that has used hallucinogenic or will not be eligible. Any applicant who has used any illegal drug in the last year used any illegal drug other than in the last five years or sold any illegal drug in the last five years is not eligible. Any applicant convicted of OWI/DUI will not be eligible. Any applicant that has missed more than two days of work due to drinking in the last five years drank any alcoholic beverages on the job without authorization in the last five years or is an active alcoholic is not eligible. Any applicant convicted of any felony or any applicant who has committed and/or participated in any criminal act in the last five years is not eligible. Any applicant that has participated in a violent crime or crime utilizing a deadly weapon participated in any illegal sexual act or participated in current &/or past criminal antigovernment or criminal gang affiliation all since the age of 18 will not be eligible. The background investigation takes approximately 34 weeks to complete.
  4. Chiefs Review Board The Chief of Police and Deputy Chiefs will ask various questions concerning the applicants application packet and results of previous scores during the hiring process. The length of the interview will vary from 1030 minutes. The Chiefs board will select the applicant(s) to continue to the next phase of the process.
  5. Commissioners Review Board The Board of Police Commissioners will ask various questions concerning the applicants application packet and results of previous scores during the hiring process. The length of the interview will vary from 1045 minutes. The Commissioners will select one applicant for each position available to continue to the next phase of the process.
  6. Psychological Exam The MMPI exam is administered and graded by a team of professional psychologists. Total time for the exam is four hours and the exam takes 34 weeks to process.
  7. Physical Exam The Public Employees Retirement Fund doctor will give a thorough physical exam of the applicant and forward the results to the PERF office. The exam takes approximately three hours to complete and the result of the exam takes 34 weeks to process.
  8. Lateral officers with less than two years of experience will upon completion of field training be promoted to First Class Patrolman and is entitled to all benefits as such. Lateral officers with more than two years of experience will be hired as a First Class Patrolman and is entitled to all benefits as such.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Personal Appearance Uniform and equipment have a professional appearance including personal hygiene and grooming.
  2. Preparation For Duty Before shift check prior shift activity reports their departmental mailbox and restock any forms for paper work needed.Passes on vital information to others during rollcall sessions held prior to each shift.
  3. Knowledge of all departmental forms used in the course of daytoday activity and incidental to arrest.
  4. Personal Conduct Display conduct on and off duty that holds a positive and professional image within the department and the community. Abide by the Police Officer Code of Ethics and Cannon of Ethics.
  5. Respond to scenes of crimes and accidents providing assistance and security as well as preservation of the crime scene.Complete preliminary investigations and process scenes for evidence.Gather information and provide written reports that are easy to read concise factual neatly prepared and turned in on time.
  6. Maintain a respect for superiors from FTO to all trainers and supervisors while keeping a good rapport with other officers.Obey lawful orders and be accountable for own actions.
  7. Patrol all streets in the city limits for the purpose of traffic enforcement detecting and deterring crime while responding to calls for service at anytime on patrol.
  8. Maintain efficient operation of departmental vehicles communication systems and other assigned equipment; such as personal equipment/apparel body armor mobile data equipment cameras and radar.
  9. Enforce all City State and Federal ordinances and laws.
  10. In accordance with onduty responsibilities an officer may be called on while offduty to render assistance or initiate an arrest for the safety of the officer and the community.
  11. Maintain all requirements for training within the department and any outside training required.
  12. Complete regularly assigned duties with a minimal amount of direct supervision.
  13. Maintain good public relations with citizens and community agencies.
  14. Assists all other law enforcement agencies when properly requested.
  15. Reports all nuisances or other matters affecting public safety such as but not limited to traffic lights street lamps or signs.
  16. Perform other related duties as may be assigned; such as Bicycle Patrol Emergency Response Team D.A.R.E. etc.
  17. Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Plainfield Police Department.
  18. Respond to emergencies immediately and correctly prioritizing necessary actions.Respond to disasters civil disturbances and other unusual circumstances when required.Engage in the pursuit of motor vehicles when required within the guidelines set by department policy.
  19. Find priority problems in assigned work area on a continual basis and adjust patrols and enforcement activity accordingly.Keep uptodate with Crime Analysis reports and work toward achieving the departments problem oriented or community policing strategies.
  20. Prepare for court testimony and provide accurate detailed accounts of cases when called upon to testify.
  21. Conduct all necessary searches within the Constitutional requirements; such as searches at scene of a crime inventory searches stop and frisk and consent searches.
  22. Conduct interviews with suspects witnesses and victims.
  23. Knowledgeable in use of force policies and prepared to use deadly force and less than lethal force when situation requires.
  24. Arrest suspects both with or without a warrant utilize alternatives to arrest when prudent and use discretion in dealing with all citizens.
  25. Transport and process prisoners upon arrest to court and to correctional facilities.
  26. Other Duties The Patrol Officer is to serve at the will of the Chief of Police to oversee and assure completion of any and all projects and assignments designated by the Chief of Police.
