Description

RPO Recruitments client in the Mining Industry is urgently seeking the expertise of a Mechanical General Engineering Supervisor in Mpumalanga. The Mechanical General Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance repair and efficient operation of all mechanical systems and equipment in the underground mine. The role ensures compliance with safety and engineering standards while leading a team of artisans and technicians to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime. Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques
  • Supervise and coordinate the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment including conveyors pumps ventilation systems and other underground mining machinery.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems operate efficiently and safely in compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to reduce equipment failure and downtime.
  • Manage and guide a team of artisans fitters and technicians to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
  • Conduct daily and weekly planning meetings to prioritize tasks and address maintenance challenges.
  • Ensure proper training and development of team members to enhance their technical skills.
  • Enforce adherence to all mine health and safety regulations including MHSA and company policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to minimize mechanicalrelated hazards.
  • Investigate and report any incidents or equipment failures implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to optimize equipment availability and minimize production interruptions.
  • Manage spare parts inventory to ensure critical components are available when needed.
  • Monitor and analyze equipment performance data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Reporting and Documentation:

Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12
  • Mechanical Trade Test (Fitter Turner or Millwright)
  • Supervisor / Foreman Certificate
  • 5 years experience as a Mechanical Foreman in an underground mining environment.
  • 10 15 years mining experience
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of underground mechanical systems and mining equipment
  • Problemsolving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and risk management
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good communication and reporting skills
  • Preferred Qualifications (Advantageous)
  • Engineering Diploma or equivalent technical qualification (Advantageous)
  • Experience with SAP PM or similar maintenance management systems (Advantageous)
