The Registered Nurse plans and provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle using the nursing process in accordance with
physician orders and established guidelines. The RN maintains the standards of practice and functions using the framework of the organizations
policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing

LICENSURES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Valid active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board for GA locations and Alabama Licensing Board for
AL locations
BLS certification
LICENSURES OR CERTIFICATIONS PREFERRED
ACLS certification
Gastroenterology Nursing certification
GSPAN and SGN membership
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
At least one year working as an RN
ROLE SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Appropriate use of Nursing Process
Assesses patient health status on admission and performs ongoing assessments during stay.
Verifies patient identity and procedure
Inspects general condition psychological and physiological status
Obtains baseline data including vital signs allergies medications history medical problems NPO status and weight
Reviews diagnostic studies and reports abnormals appropriately
Determines educational needs and post procedure caregiver status
Observes and recognizes status changes and needs including those of the family
Performs EKGs
2. Identifies needs and problems and plans appropriate care.
Completes nursing diagnosis appropriate to care period and planned procedure and plans care based on needs/problems identified
3. Implements Nursing care according to plan of care and policies and procedures.
Ensures safe transportation
Obtains permits for procedures as ordered
Administers medications including chemotherapy bladder instillation and blood
Starts IVs as ordered
Provides equipment/supplies based on needs and in a timely efficient and safe manner
Performs safety checks on equipment and follows procedure for malfunction and documentation
Performs safe operation of equipment beds gurneys ACCUCheck and monitoring equipment etc.
Identifies and interprets physiological reactions and takes appropriate action(s)
Adheres to principles of infection control/standard precautions in care delivery
Checks and maintains stock for area; cleans and prepares work area
Provides education to patient/family pre and post procedure
Monitors the patient during pre and postoperative care period
Provides comfort measures
Performs admission to hospital per procedure including room assignment and notifies appropriate areas
Orders and retrieves diagnostic studies
Provides community resources as applicable
Performs patient discharge
4. Evaluates patient response and effectiveness of care provided and takes appropriate action(s).
Appropriate documentation
5. Documents and communicates nursing care.
Proper documentation on nursing notes care plan and assessment records
Communicates assessment plan implementation evaluation activities and results to appropriate health care team members
Completes records charges unusual occurrences and any paperwork associated with position
6. Other Duties
Prioritizes admission of patients according to Surgery Schedule and patient needs
Continuously reviews and updates grid board
Makes rounds with physicians
Assists physician including Anesthesiologist with procedures as necessary
Performs clerical duties including physician office followup appointments faxing and computer order entry
Provides Conscious Sedation monitoring according to policy/procedure
7. GI Lab Duties
Assists physician with procedures
Utilizes specimens care knowledge
Utilizes procedures knowledge
Utilizes knowledge of equipment and related supplies in:
Use and setup
Trouble shooting
Care and cleaning
8. Continuing Education
Completes competency checklists within first 90 days
Completes unit specific validations within 1 year
Obtains at least twenty hours of annual continuing education minimum 50 unit specific and at least one hour per age group is age
specific
Completes applicable core and annual skills checklists and tests
Completes annual skills competencies in ageappropriate care
Completes unit and departmental annual skills validations
Maintains required unit specific competencies
Successful completion of Pharmacology exam
