The R&D Equipment Maintenance Technicianis part of theequipment engineer teamwhoprovides expertise service and support to San Diego Illumina headquarters by maintaining equipment at world class levels in a fast pace regulated environment and providing high level reliability exceeding Illuminas dynamic development and manufacturing demands.TheR&D Equipment Maintenance Technicianwill support theday to day R&Dequipmentmaintenance operationsby owning high complexitymaintenancetask and challengeswith minimalsupervision.This individual will work in a dynamic teamoriented environmentthat supports multiple operations and technologieshelping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipelinein a reliable and sustainable manner.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairson DNA sequencing equipment.
- Working with engineers to plan and execute calibrations preventive maintenancesupplier supportand project activities withmedium guidance.
- Use optical mechanical electrical and fluidics knowledge to perform basic equipment troubleshooting.
- Perform basic computer hardware/software procedures and troubleshooting.
- Work in a team environment to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
- Escalate problems to engineers and work with engineers to address advanced issues.
- Able to complete work with medium supervision and report/track progress through a digital ticketing system.
- Capable of executing procedures without established instructions and capable of referencing written documentation.
- Monitors equipment technical performance andmanagetechnical inventoryfor area of responsibility with medium oversight.
- Ability to operate in a fast pace environment adapt to changes in priority and redirect efforts as necessary.
- While performing the duties of this job is regularly required to stand sit walk climb stairs/ladders kneel crouch or wear safety gear. Must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Requirements:
- Good math and analytical skills.
- Good verbal and written documentation skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office.
- Experience with optical/mechanical/electrical and fluidic systems preferred.
- Experience in high volume manufacturing environment preferred.
- Workingexperience in Life Sciences / Pharmaceutical / Medical Devices industries would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) would be a plus.
Experience/Education:
- At least two years work experience in a manufacturing support or R&D laboratory setting either assembling and testing instruments or machinery or diagnosing and repairing same.

The estimated base hourly range for the Equipment Engineering R&D Technician 2 role based in the United States of America is: $22.59 $33.84. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to an individuals qualifications location where the role is to be performed internal equity and alignment with market data. Additionally all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
