Job Description

INTRODUCTION

The School of Computing harbors a rich environment of instruction and research offering four rigorous bachelors degrees two masters degrees a Ph.D. degree and a worldclass research enterprise. The school has experienced unprecedented growth in the last five years leading to new and exciting education and research initiatives for faculty and students. Current faculty are engaged in groundbreaking research in computing areas including security machine learning bioinformatics systems and networking and big data analytics. For the more than 1300 undergraduate and 150 graduate students this topnotch college experience is heightened by the schools successful recruiting of awardwinning faculty to train the next generation of computer scientists and engineers. It is the states flagship institution of higher education and includes a main campus in Storrs CT four regional campuses throughout the state and 13 Schools and Colleges including a Law School in Hartford and Medical and Dental Schools at the UConn Health campus in Farmington. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is for the Director of the Computer Science program on the Stamford campus. It is specifically geared to Stamford and Fairfield County. This area has one of the worlds highest standards of living as well as a strong industrial base. There are opportunities for curricular design and engagement with regional industry. The successful hire will have significant opportunities to help shape the have several concentration areas such as Software Engineering Mobile Systems Development Big Data Analytics and Cybersecurity complementing the concentrations offered at the main campus in Storrs.

The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to promoting the computer science program in the region and the country effective instruction at the undergraduate level the development of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research outreach and professional development. The successful candidate will also be expected to broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups; demonstrate through teaching possible research and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests. The successful candidate will work closely with school leadership in Storrs to determine teaching and resource needs for the Stamford CS program and also work closely with the academic affairs team at the Stamford Campus to ensure smooth delivery of all aspects of the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computing Science or a related field by the time of appointment.
  2. Candidates must have a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching introductory courses on programming data structures and algorithms.
  3. The ability to effectively communicate with students in both large and small audiences.
  4. A deep commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion through their academic and research programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Some experience in administration.
  2. Expertise in Systems Programming Computer Networks Algorithms Databases or Software Engineering.
  3. Experience in teaching data sciencerelated subjects will be a plus.
  4. An outstanding record of teaching.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and use of innovative techniques.
  6. The ability to contribute through teaching research and public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a fulltime 9month annually renewable nontenure track position with the possibility of subsequent annual academicyear reappointment contingent on positive reviews and program funding and may lead to a multiyear appointment. This position starts in Fall 2025. Rank and salarywill be commensurate with qualifications. This position is primarily located at the Stamford campus.
