Position Information
- This is aDepartment PromotionalExaminationopen only to current eligible employees of the Kern CountyDistrictAttorneysOffice whohave successfully completed their initial probationary period and received anoverall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.Examination Schedule:
- Written Exam: qualified candidates will be notified five 5 days prior to the examination
Examination:Written Exam (Weight 100: Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicants knowledge of methods and techniques of criminal investigation including the preparation of reports; gathering and presentation of evidence; laws of arrest; courtroom procedures; methods and use of technical investigative equipment; techniques of interviewing and interrogation and other relevant topics.Applicants must attain at least a 70 score on each phase of the examination process.Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date/time/location without exception.
Minimum Qualifications/ Employment Standards:Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university including at least 15 semester units in Criminal Justice Police Science or related field AND one 1 year of field investigative work involving public contact for a police or criminal investigation agency.
Experience as a field investigator may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis to a maximum substitution of one 1 year of experience.
Please note that education cannot substitute the required experience as a field investigator. You must have at least one year of field investigative work experience to qualify for this examination.

- Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.A background check may be conducted for this classification.Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment will be made at the Kern County District Attorneys Department.Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed.
