Duties And Responsibilities
Perform clinical laboratory studies in the areas of bacteriology serology hematology urinalysis chemistry parasitology and immunology. Utilize all laboratory instruments including automated cell counters chemistry analyzers centrifuges microscopes spectrophotometers automated EIA instruments and rapid testing systems. Communicate with other healthcare personnel on the applications and validity of laboratory data laboratory policies and operations and detailed information about all areas of the laboratory. Ability to communicate effectively with medical as well as nonmedical personnel. Collect samples: perform venipuncture for hematology chemistry and serology. Collect throat and urine specimens for routine microbiological examination. Instruct patients on the proper procedure for collection of samples. Share Saturday and Sunday morning coverage (primarily culture sensitivities) with 12 other Clinical Laboratory Scientists.
Physical Demands
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Employees are provided with training and equipment that complies with OSHA requirements for a health care setting). Exposure to other pathogens of all kinds that is inherent to working in a health care setting.
