This position is hybrid Ottawa Ontario.
Position Summary
Thales Canada Defence & Security is engaged in supporting the Canadian Armys Land Command Control Communications & Computers (C4 Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (LC4ISR) systems which enable critical decisions on a daily basis. Together with industry partners Thales is building on the existing networks and applications to enhance digitized operations support communications between joint and allied forces and monitor and defend against the threats and evolving capabilities of potential adversaries.
Thales Canada is looking for people interested in directly contributing to the evolution of advanced digitized operations for the Canadian Army into the future both in Canada and on overseas deployments. There are opportunities available in each of the four LC4ISR programs which include:
- System of systems engineering and integration;
- Core network;
- Applications; and
- Intelligence surveillance target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR).
As a Senior Systems Engineer you should have a demonstrated record of leadership and excellence and should possess the ability to successfully complete new challenges in multidisciplinary and collaborative environments. You will join the Systems Engineering teams located in Ottawa Canada and provide system engineering support throughout the project cycle from specification design development integration test and acceptance. In your efforts to develop and sustain mission systems you will integrate a variety of sensors software firmware and apps on commercial and military platforms.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Tailor the system engineering process practices and tools; Estimate and appropriately decompose work in an agile lifecycle process; Provide timely and accurate status updates; Develop the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements; Review and validate internal and subcontractor designs plans and schedules; Identify characterize and describe issues in the system or its design through problem reports and document and design reviews;
- Author technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture interfaces and installation elements;
- Support the development of verification and validation artifacts including plans and procedures;
- Collaborate with other functions during the implementation and integration of the system and subsystem designs; Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the designs are consistent with needs desires and concerns of the endusers;
- Resolution of technical issues arising during the implementation integration and testing of the system and subsystem elements;
- Support the installation and/or integration testing of the systems remotely or on customer site; and/or Technical subcontract management including management of work scope and compliance of the (subcontractor) supplied solution.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in the design and integration of complex systems in the commercial and/or military domains.
- Bachelors degree in engineering discipline or equivalent education with relevant experience.
- Experience in any of the following areas would be considered an asset: Sensors Electronic Warfare / ESM EO/IR CBRN Radar; Networking Design & Architecture Routing protocols Maintenance & Administration QoS etc; Communications Tactical / Secure voice VHF/UHF softwaredefined radios SATCOM cryptos Link16 / Link22 VOIP; NATO / MIL Stds NFFI FMN MIP4 NVG; Cloud & Virtualization Containers & Container Orchestration
Physical Demands
- Standard office environment with potential for minimal lifting of test and electronic equipment and connecting equipment in a lab environment or job site (including onboard vehicle or vessel).
Special Position Requirements
- Hybrid position. Full time standard business hours.
- Possibility of occasional travel to customer site for technical support / integration activities.
- Possibility of occasional travel within Canada for planning events.
