Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe Reliable Maintainable and delivered on time. Life Cycle Engineering consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering our program offices and our customers. Our Life Cycle Engineering disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support including the following disciplines: Reliability System Safety and Supportability.
What You Will Do:
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivatedPrincipal System Safety Engineerto join us on theLand & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety teamin Tewksbury MA.
As aPrincipal System Safety Engineer your responsibilities will include:
- Analysis of engineering hardware mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance latent hazards and safety requirements compliance.
- Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
- Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
- Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses and documenting results (Preliminary Hazards List/Analysis System Hazard Analysis Hazard Tracking Logs Functional Hazard Analysis Fault Tree Analysis Safety Assessment Report).
- Working with a large system safety program or multiple midsized safety programs including:
- Monitoring program technical Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers program offices subcontractors vendors).
- Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval.
- Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process including for example: SSWGs SSSTRP Tech Assists and Mission Readiness Assessments.
- Interpreting system requirements customer specifications and military standards.
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.
This position is posted as ONSITE and is based at Raytheons Tewksbury MA location.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically Requires aBachelors degree in Science Technology Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 8 years of relevant experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.
- Experience with Safety Engineering Systems Engineering Software Engineering Electrical or Firmware Engineering.
- Experience with proposals or BOE (Basis of Estimates).
- Experience mentoring junior level safety engineers.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Overall DoD System Safety Program experience as well as experience in commandandcontrol systems and/or weapon combat systems.
- Experience with safety standards (MILSTD882 AMCOM 38517 JSSSEH AOP52 AR 38510 MILHDBK454 MILSTD1472 MILSTD1474 MILSTD464 MILSTD1425.
- Experience developing/coordinating all products required to obtain safety review board approvals required to field a weapon system.
- Experience producing System Safety Program Plans (SSPP) Safety Assessment Reports (SAR) Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) and Hazard Tracking Logs (HTLs) and Hazardous Material Management Plans and Reports.
- Experience conducting System Safety Working Groups (SSWG) as well as managing a safety program and providing direction to supporting safety personnel.
- Ensure system safety processes and requirements are properly planned executed and documented during the entire life cycle of weapon systems and oversee the of programmatic system safety activities.
- Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees as they are essential to the development of our products.
This position requires ability to obtain a security clearance. DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS) an agency of the Department of Defense handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
May have broad knowledge of project management. Requires substantial knowledge of RTX projects programs or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area.
Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 6 years prior relevant experience or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
The salary range for this role is 101000 USD 203000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
