Job Description
The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a full time English teacher. We are seeking enthusiastic energetic collegial individuals who want to work with both adults and high school students in a collaborative and inclusive academic setting. The English Department encourages students to develop a love of reading facility and pleasure in writing and an appreciation for literature as a way to understand themselves and the world.
Essential Responsibilities
- Teach four sections/two to three preps per trimester (approximately 50 students).
- Two seasons of coaching or equivalent cocurricular commitment including at least one season of interscholastic coaching (or the equivalent).
- Advise five to eight students and do one evening a week of House duty providing supervision in a student residence from 711:30 pm. Although not necessarily starting their first year faculty who reside in Schoolprovided housing are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career.
- Chaperone a weekend activity (dance coffee house etc. at least once per term.
- Work within the department and in the broader school to foster community and belonging.
- Work professionally and cooperatively within the department the School and the broader Lawrenceville community.
- M.A. in English or related field or M. Ed. with BA in English (or related field).
- At least three years high school teaching experience
- Ability to teach across a range of literatures periods and genres
- Ability to teach both introductory and advanced courses in English
- Demonstrated success teaching writing and the writing process
- Demonstrated success facilitating collaborative studentcentered discussionbased classes
- Demonstrated success in providing timely effective student feedback
- A passion for teaching literature and writing
- Demonstrated success working as a part of a highperforming team
- Strong interpersonal organizational and communication (oral and written) abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently as needed and appropriate.
- Proficient computer skills including familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated dedication to working with highschool students.
