Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to join the Infrastructure group in our Tunnels team in the Vancouver B.C. location.
The Project Engineer will provide engineering and inspection services during construction of the Annacis Water Supply Tunnel Project which involves the replacement of the existing seismically vulnerable cast iron Annacis Mains No. 2 and 3 to expand a seismically upgraded system to drinking water capacity to municipalities south of Annacis Island. The project involves a new 2.3 km long tunnel under the Fraser River. The project will consist of two deep vertical shafts a 4.59m diameter bored gasketed segmental tunnel installed steel water main valve chambers and surface piping.
This position will require a high level of collaboration with all team members including the client contractor and construction manager to successfully complete the project on time and on budget.Site based position located in Surrey BC.
Challenging position opportunity to advance knowledge and learning in the construction of underground infrastructure /tunnelling projects.
As the successful candidate you will:
- Assist the Resident Engineer in site conformance of design and verification.
- Provide daily construction monitoring and inspection in compliance with the design contract safety and stakeholder requirements.
- Prepare daily inspection reports compliance reporting and quality verification.
- Review contractors plans reports and schedules.
- Review and familiarize requirements in contract documents and specifications.
- Review evaluate and respond to contractors submittals including RFIs RFVs clarifications and geotechnical information and effects on schedule.
- Review evaluate and respond to value engineering proposals provide input analysis and verification for change order requests.
- Monitor and inspect the contractors progress and its subcontractors progress on site and off site production activities and shipments.
- Provide engineering evaluation and advice on contractor payments on claims.
- Implement and manage reporting including daily inspection reporting construction activity reporting and monthly progress reporting.
- Actively participate and collaborate in weekly monthly and ad hoc meetings.
- Assist with tracking the engineering budget schedule deliverables and reporting.
You bring to the role:
- 4 12 years experience working in a civil construction monitoring and inspection or design environment.
- P.Eng. or eligible in BC. Undergrad or Masters degree in Civil Geotechnical or Structural Engineering.
- Computer proficiency: MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) Design Software.
- Preferred experience and interest in underground tunnelling and shaft excavation an asset.
- Experience with Primavera P6 and Project Management Software an asset.
- Excellent inspection observation critical thinking and reporting/writing skills.
- A team player with strong written verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the position such as walking standing lifting climbing stairs and ladders bending squatting and inspecting in tight spaces.
- First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Mandatory Health and Safety Training.
