Job Description

General Summary:

Transports patients by wheelchair stretcher or bed to and from various departments within the hospital setting. Provides patient services to the infant child adolescent adult and geriatric populations. Delivers specimens and supplies to and from Nursing Departments as assigned.

Supports the Mission of Frederick Health Hospital and complies with the hospitals Code of Conduct.

Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Current CPR certification of certification achieved during orientation.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients staff and the public.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal direction.
  • Effective use of proper body mechanics when handling patients supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate patient care equipment such as beds stretchers wheelchairs and patient lifts.
  • Ability to handle a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to keep patient and employee information confidential.
  • Possess positive verbal communication skills and to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
  • Ability to transfer patients while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Ability to adapt to current EMR documentation and possess positive customer service.

Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in all age groups.

Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status. Possess the ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her agespecific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the units/departments policies and procedures Not applicable.

Physical Demands:

MediumHeavy Work Lifting up to 75 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour)

Ergonomic Risk Factors:

Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated the speed of the movement the required force and muscle involved

Forceful Exertion: The amount of physical effort required to perform a task (such as moving patients) or to maintain control of equipment or tools. The amount of force depends on the type of grip the weight of an object or person body posture the type of activity and duration of the task.

Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that are involved in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching bending kneeling squatting working overhead with you hands or arms or holding fixed positions.

Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves tendons and blood vessels. For example using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Vibration: Operating vibrating tools such as sanders grinders chippers routers drills and other items can lead to nerve damage.

Working Conditions:

Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Risk Category A WILL have exposure to blood or body fluids

Exposure to infectious diseases hazardous materials highly technical and heavy equipment.

Pay is based on experience skills and education. If position is parttime salary will be prorated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. NonExempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid if applicable.

Hourly range: $15.61 $18.36
