Position Summary
The Department of Cariology Operative Dentistry and Dental Public Health DCODDPH and the Oral Health Research Institute OHRI at the Indiana University School of Dentistry IUSD in Indianapolis are seeking qualified applicants for a tenuretrack faculty position. This will be a 12month 1.0 FTE appointment at the rank of either assistant or associate professor with an anticipated start date of July 1 2023 or sooner. RESEARCH INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP THAT IMPROVES LIVES Our OHRI started with the creation of the worlds first fluoride toothpaste and continues to be a globally recognized center for preventive dentistry research and oral care product testing. The institutes impressive portfolio of clinical trials and capabilities are only a couple of pivotal reasons we continue to contribute markedly to the advancement of dental health in and beyond the United States. JOIN AN INSTITUTION THAT IMPROVES THE WORLD We are recruiting to our team someone with research training in cariology a record of ongoing scholarly activity and consistent success in obtaining extramural research funding. Specific research areas of interest are in but not limited to cariology with focus on dental microbiology/biofilm digital clinical tools and methodologies or clinical management of dental hardtissue pathologies. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality collaboration and diversity among members of various education research and service communities as well as a proven commitment to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting are qualities the successful candidate will possess. These abilities and characteristics are essential because the primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to advance and support the research missions of OHRI and DCODDPH and develop new aligned research program(s) that are strongly sustained by independent extramural research funds. In addition to our research we improve the world through teaching and service. Limited didactic teaching and instruction at the predoctoral and graduate levels and mentoring of graduate students through their research projects is part of this position. Engagement in service at the department school and university levels including participation in departmental and school governance is expected. We deliver a wide range of services and outreach to more than 20000 patients per year. We enroll approximately 800 students annually in degree and/or certificate programs in dentistry allied dental programs PhD and advanced dental specialty programs tailored to current and future needs of the professions and the communities we serve. The IU School of Dentistry is the only dental school in the state and educates 80 of the dentists practicing in Indiana. Over 12000 of our alumni are pursuing careers throughout the US and around the world.
