The Athens City School District has an opening for an Elementary Assistant Principal at our East and MorrisonGordon Elementary Schools. Title:ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPALReports To:Elementary School PrincipalsJob Objective:Assist the principal with the organization administration supervision and evaluation of all Elementary School programs services and activities. Execute the policies and administrative directives of the Athens City School Board of Education according to Ohio School Law and Standards. Provide instructional leadership and support for staff. Assist with the preservation and safety of the building grounds and equipment.Minimum *A Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university.Qualifications: *A valid State of Ohio Principals License.*Meet all current health requirements including a negative tuberculosis test.*Evidence of a clear record as determined by the Bureau of Criminal Identificationand Investigation and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation.*Evidence of educational and organizational management skills.*Demonstrated competence in evaluating and motivating staff.*Expertise and skill in working with Elementary School students.Essential *Perform all assigned duties according to the policies rules and regulations of Functions: the Athens City School Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Education. Comply with all local mandates.*Assume building and program responsibility during the absence of the Elementary School Principal.*Administer student attendance policy and reporting procedures. Oversee daily attendance records (e.g. absences tardiness teachers period attendance sheets etc.. Administer early dismissal. Perform followup activities when necessary. Refer persistent truancy and/or tardiness problems to the Principal.*Supervise data entry and processing of student attendance and conduct records.* Administer the student conduct policy. Communicate policies and schoolrules to students. Handle routine discipline matters according to districtpolicy and the due process rights of students. Assist teachers with disciplineconcerns as required. Confer with and make recommendation to the Elementary School Principal regarding student discipline.*Oversee the assignment of student detentions according to school policy.Monitor attendance records and assign followup penalties when required.Recommend alternative discipline measures when appropriate.*Assist with compliance procedures for reporting child abuse concerns.*Help maintain effective relationships with community organizations (e.g.childrens services court system mental health etc..*Assist with student classification promotion retention and testing activities.*Assist with student withdrawal procedures and respond to lawful requests forrecords.*Work with Guidance Counselors to ensure appropriate student progress withsocial emotional and academic development. Help mediate student issues.Attend to the special needs of atrisk students. Involve parent in theresolution of student issues when appropriate.*Render basic first aid to students in the absence of the School Nurse. Maintainmedication authorization records and administer prescription and over thecounter as directed by board policy. Oversee notification of parents andarrange for ill students to be taken home when necessary.*Serve as a member of the guidance intervention team.*Represent the Elementary School at I.E.P. meetings as directed.*Oversee scheduling and supervision of student nonathletic cocurricularactivities and special events.*Oversee scheduling and supervision of student activities (e.g. athletics cocurricular special events etc.. Monitor financial reports of student activityaccounts.*Oversee student recognition activities (e.g. Honor Roll attendance awardsassemblies etc.. Promote a favorable image of student achievements in theschool and community.*Attend school functions as requested by the Principal.*Assist with the coordination of field trips.*Prepare reports and maintain records related to assigned duties as directed bythe Elementary School Principal.*Assist with the supervision and enforcement of district policies and proceduresto protect the building grounds and school property. Ensure the health safetyand wellbeing of students staff and visitors.*Develop rapport and maintain the confidence of staff parents and students.*Provide staff with timely information concerning building plans and activities.*Provide instructional leadership by assisting with the supervision and evaluationof the instructional and guidance programs according to district policy andadministrative procedures.*Work with advisory committees participating in the selection process ofcertificated personnel (excluding supervisors) as directed.*Regularly advise the Elementary School Principal about building conditions andprogram issues (e.g. personnel student body services activities communityconcerns etc.. Analyze and recommend organizational and instructional improvements.*Be available to respond to building emergencies at any hour of the day asrequested by the Superintendent and/or his or her designee.*Assist with the evaluation updating and monitoring of emergency preparedness plans (e.g. fire drills tornado drills safety procedures etc..Initiate immediate action during all emergencies. Promptly report all unusualcircumstances to the Elementary School Principal.*Promote sound public relations and interpersonal communications with a focus on the districts educational philosophy.*Pursue opportunities that encourage close working relationships betweenparents teachers and students.*Seek and use community resources that enhance the learning environment.(e.g. parents community volunteers service clubs Ohio University publicand private organizations businesses etc..*Serve on assigned committees. Work with board and administrative staff tocooperatively develop policies and carry out plans for the improvement ofthe schools.*Assist with the preparation of grant applications as directed.*Participate in or support authorized research projects.*Participate in professional growth activities to improve personal skills and keep current with advances in education and organizational management. Share knowledge and skills with staff.*Serve as a role model for students. Demonstrate responsibility citizenship respect and courtesy.*Perform other specific jobrelated duties as directed.
