The Ideal Candidate for This Opening
We are looking for an attorney with an agile mind and excellent legal skills to join us as a member of our Sustainability Legal team. This attorney will report to our Global Sustainability Counsel and be part of our Litigation Ethics & Compliance organization within HPs Legal Department. You will be a trusted advisor to our Sustainability Impact & Compliance organization and various internal business partners around the world including supply chain procurement product design and development sales marketing and operations. You will be called upon to advise creatively and effectively on complex legal challenges and company initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have both law firm and inhouse legal experience and will have subject matter legal expertise in the areas of green marketing claim regulations circularity goals and requirements climaterelated matters (including carbon emissions reductions and reporting requirements) deforestation regulations product safety regulations chemicals and materials compliance transboundary movement of used goods and waste accessibility requirements and EHS regulations and environmental remediation (e.g. CERCLA) matters. Additional experience advising global manufacturing companies counseling on extended producer responsibilities addressing human rights matters (including human slavery and conflict minerals) and advising on ESG reporting and disclosures is a plus.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Develop legal strategies and identify potential legal risks in the abovedescribed subject matter areas for both our internal clients and other colleagues within HPs Legal Department.
Provide legal subject matter expertise in the abovedescribed subject matter areas covered by the Sustainability Legal team.
Develop new ideas and methods to effectively address recurring legal issues or matters facing multiple client organizations.
Monitor evolving regulatory landscapes and industry trends to ensure the organizations adherence to changing legal requirements.
Represent HP on occasion before industry policy setting organizations government agencies and other regulatory bodies.
Contribute to complex multidimensional projects or transactions by identifying and resolving complex legal issues requiring indepth knowledge and judgment within the abovedescribed subject matter areas covered by the Sustainability Legal team.
Exercise independent judgment to resolve business issues and establish policies.
Handle other duties as assigned or required.
Education and Experience Required
Juris Doctor (J.D. degree from an ABAaccredited academic institution.
Active member in good standing with a state bar in the U.S.
Licensed or registered to practice law as an inhouse attorney if the applicant is not also an active member in good standing with the state bar where the HP office with which the applicant would be affiliated is located.
710 years of legal work experience in the abovedescribed subject matter areas covered by the Sustainability Legal team.
The base pay range for this role is $146650 to $255850 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only). Pay varies by work location jobrelated knowledge skills and experience.
