Job Description
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is looking for talented high school students aged 16 or older to work in our Summer Science Camps from June 9 August 8 2025. We offer exciting handson summer camps to kids from rising kindergarten to rising eighth grade. During the summer campers explore different areas of science through experiential lessons and unique engagement opportunities. If you are passionate about working with children science or education please consider sharing your excitement with campers in Chapel Hill as a Summer Camp Assistant Counselor. Our staff enjoys a schedule that is flexible around summer plans! There will be mandatory camp training May 29 June 1 2025. Job duties include: Training on science content and curricula geared towards kids ages 513 (If you dont have a science background dont worry well teach you! Learning best practices for teaching camp activities including working with campers with special needs using inclusive teaching methods classroom management support and general camp management Coleading and assisting with science activities for groups of up to 20 campers with a Lead Counselor and CounselorInTraining Supervising campers to ensure they are safe and having fun Communicating with camp administrators involving camp incidents materials needs and general camp updates
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
High level of responsibility organization and resourcefulness; Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Must be a high school student at least 16 years of age by May 1 2025 and eligible to work in NC. Experience working with children.
Work Schedule
Monday Friday 15 hours for content training in May); Monday Friday (up to 40 hours per week during camp weeks) 8:00AM 5:00PM
