Job Description

Assistant Softball Coach

NON BARGAINING UNIT GRADE 11 EXEMPT

Work Location: Johnson
Special Considerations: Working nights & Weekends

BASIC FUNCTION
To assist the head coach and oversee in one or more areas within the Athletics and Recreation Department.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be an active member in the direction of the Johnson Athletic Department.
  • The primary responsibility will be to assist the head coach in all facets of the program including the recruitment of quality studentathletes organization and planning of practices game preparation administrative duties scouting and monitoring of student athlete academic progress.
  • Educate studentathletes regarding academic policies as well as emphasize the studentathlete
  • Comply with the NCAA Division III constitution and all operating bylaws; report any violations of thus by laws to the director of athletics and the compliance coordinator upon occurrence.
  • Emphasize the Vermont State University Code of Character (responsibility respect sportsmanship integrity and servant leadership) conduct yourself at all times in the model of the Code of Character.
  • Adhere to athletic trainers decisions and recommendations
  • Work in conjunction with admissions through the recruiting process
  • Adhere to athletics judicialsuspension policies and enforce the nohazing policies.
  • Communicate practice/schedule changes to the appropriate department staff members.
  • Follow and support the Johnson athletic department mission statement/philosophy

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Director of Athletics.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
General supervision over student workers and student interns.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in sports administration recreation physical education or other appropriate discipline with a masters degree desirable plus two to four years relevant experience in coaching or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

  • Broad base of knowledge and skills related to athletic facilities management coaching recruiting and other relevant experience.
  • Two to four years of prior coaching experience.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of university students personnel facilities users and others outside the University.
  • Weekend and evening work are required.
  • Valid Drivers License
