The School of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington (Seattle) invites applications for a fulltime tenuretrack Assistant Professor position in Cello Performance. This position has an anticipated start date of September 16 2025 and will have a 9month service period (September 16June 15.
The School of Music is currently engaged in a fundamental reassessment of our values and shared goals; the successful candidate will be expected to join us in our ongoing work toward a vision of the School of Music that is inclusive and diverse. In light of this the School of Music is revising its curriculum with emphasis on addressingissues of equity justice and access integrating the scholarly and creative programs in the school more closely broadening the repertoire beyond the European common practice period and centering student creativity through improvisation and music technology. We also work to reach a student population outside the School of Music by developing courses for nonmajors including ensembles in which nonmajors can perform. We strive to create an environment of collaboration among our faculty and welcome initiatives that enrich and foster work between our different programs and allied programs across the university. The individual selected will be required to build and sustain a successful cello studio and to take an active role in our strings chamber music program. Furthermore they will engage music and the arts in Seattle and throughout the Pacific Northwest to foster development of the Schools visibility locally and nationally. The successful candidate will also assist in the organization/administration of the string area and have continued growth in their national/international performance career. Through their performance teaching programming and research the Assistant Professor will address diversity and promote equal opportunity in the field of music.
The base salary range for this position will be $9500 $10414 per month at 100 FTE commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
Promoting the School of Musics mission to foster musically knowledgeable and engaged citizens
Working collaboratively with faculty and staff on advancing issues of diversity equity inclusion justice and accessibility in the School and University
Other duties as assigned
Candidates must hold at minimum a masters degree or foreign equivalent in a relevant field at the start of the appointment. They also must have expertise in large and/or small ensemble performance and organization.
