Were recruiting for a Tax Manager working as part of Group Tax team to support the Head of Global Employment Tax. In this role you will be responsible for managing compliance requirements globally (c12 territories currently) providing specialist technical advice and judgement on domestic and international employment tax and social security matters providing advice and support in a practical way across the L&Gs business units and group functions as well as ownership of key initiatives.
What youll be doing:
- Supporting the Head of Global Employment Taxes in partnering with the group functions (HR Legal Finance Procurement) and business divisions on policy and processes which have an employment tax impact this may involve helping to establish new policy / process enhancing existing policy / process and recommending appropriate tax controls to ensure compliance.
- Monitoring and advising on the state of compliance across employment tax related areas including UK Payroll CIS Share plans Expenses Benefits termination payments IR35 remote working requests and business travellers and the equivalent in all our operating countries. Oversee the preparation of the PAYE Settlement Agreement and UK business travel returns. Recommending new or enhanced controls where necessary and ensure embedded into process.
- Leading the daytoday relationship with our L&G Global Mobility team global tax advisors and internal and external payroll teams to ensure appropriate policy processes and controls are in place to meet our global tax compliance requirements arising on international working arrangements.
- Providing support in managing tax audits providing and analysing necessary documentation and advising on tax positions.
- Supporting with any follow up actions / change to processes from enquiries or audits both internally and with the tax authorities.
- Building relationships with key contacts in HR and other teams to ensure Group Tax are appropriately embedded in commercial activity. Input into the design and provision of training to HR Legal and Finance on employment tax issues which impact their teams (e.g. termination payments international mobility expense processes (new countries) payrolling benefits Off payroll worker rules).
- Through regular engagement with the functions and business units and the operation of effective tax controls in processes identify tax risks and work with the business and tax authorities to mitigate any tax impact and undertake remedial action.
- Monitoring changes in tax legislation across the countries in which we operate in particular payroll and share scheme changes.
- Supporting the Head of Global Employment Taxes in preparing representations and responses to consultations on prospective changes on behalf of L&G and communicating impacts to stakeholders.
- Collaborating with other members of the Group Tax team to ensure appropriate subject matter expertise is obtained as required. Engaging with external network of peers to ensure awareness of issues and changes that could affect L&G.
Qualifications :
Who were looking for:
- Professional Financial Qualification e.g. CTA ACA or ACCA) with a solid level of post qualification tax experience within a large corporate or practice
- Knowledge of UK Taxes Acts and regulations particularly as they apply to employment taxes
- Develop and maintain knowledge of legislation and regulations underpinning employment tax requirements in the UK
- An understanding of general principles around taxes social security and payroll in other countries (for example the US Australia Singapore) and the practical impact of double tax treaties and how to research further information
- Knowledge of the tax aspects of employee share plans (HMRC approved and discretionary) the construction industry scheme and IR35
- Builds and develops strong relationships with staff peers and other contacts within the business.
- Experience of providing tax advice and be able to explain tax technical issues in a clear and concise way to nontax experts.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel (Power BI helpful not essential) Word Outlook and PowerPoint.
