The Western Washington University Center for Economic and Financial Educationprovides inservice and preservice training of elementary and secondary teachers in economic and financial education.

The Center also engages in the following:

  • Consultation with school districts on curriculum development.
  • Development of curriculum materials for specific needs.
  • Coordination of community resources useful for teaching economics.
  • Distribution of materials useful in economic education.
  • Research and evaluation of economic education materials and programs presently available.
About the Position

The Department of Economics is seeking a Program Specialist for the Center for Economic and Financial Education (CEFE) to support develop and implement educational training and outreach initiatives under the direction of the Director of CEFE.

This position provides a wide range of support to CEFE and the Department of Economics to assist teachers students and community members in reaching goals around financial and economic literacy. This includes consulting with school districts on curriculum development coordinating resources for teaching and implementing professional development opportunities. In this role you will develop and deliver engaging training programs workshops and resources to help educators effectively teach financial and economic concepts to students. You will collaborate with educators to enhance their understanding of key economic and financial principles white equipping them with the tools needed to foster financial literacy in the classroom. Strong communication skills as well as the ability to work both as a member of a team and independently are critical to this position.

This a fulltime projectemployment position (ending no later than March 31 2027 based at WWU in Bellingham WA but will require occasional travel to school districts and other locations for onsite professional development and workshops. This position will be inperson with possibilities for occasional remote work as determined by the Director.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Two years of experience working in education or clerical experience with administrative responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrated clarity in verbal and written communication
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook Excel Word etc.
  • Willingness to learn new software skills
  • Able to perform lifting related to office and event work activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree and/or equivalent/experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage events
  • Demonstrated subjectlevel knowledge in economics or personal finance
  • Experience working with Drupal (website editor)
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator
  • Demonstrated presentation and teaching skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience with curriculum coordination
  • Ability to foster a collegial environment and work will in a collaborative setting.
