Therapidly growing and awardwinning team at Executive Mental Health (EMH) which offers over 25 years of experience as a leading behavioral healthcare group in the State of Californiais seeking experienced Psychiatric NursePractitioners for a fulltime position with the company to support the growthof EMH as a trusted provider of integrated mental healthcare.


The psychiatric nurse practitioner will offer an extensiveknowledge of nursing mental health assessment and diagnosis psychotherapyand psychopharmacology. The successful candidate will be knowledgeableabout assisting clinicians in providing topquality mental health care and offerexperience in the skilled nursing environment and/or working with the elderlycommunity.


EMHis looking for candidates throughout California: With the home office in LosAngeles EMH clinicians provide facetoface and remote therapeuticinterventions throughout the state. NursePractitioners support EMH patients most of whom reside in SNFs by attendingto their behavioral health needs. Jobdescription:


EMHis expanding now by hiring physicians and nurse practitioners based on the needfor competent clinicians to manage the prescription of psychotropic medicationsas we continue to deliver quality mental health services to a diverseunderserved population residing in skilled nursing facilities (as well as otherlevels of care). We emphasize the biopsychosocial model and communicate withstaff in a collegial way to improve patients quality of life.

PsychiatricNurse Practitioners will support patients cope with psychiatric disordersincluding ADHD mood disorders and anxiety and others. They will evaluatepatients before and during their care to monitor their progress and administermedications as needed. At EMH the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners will also collaboratewith psychiatrists to provide the widest scope of care possible to patients. PsychiatricNurse Practitioners should hold strong communication skills to work effectivelywith other medical professionals and patients. They should also possess astrong sense of empathy to understand their patients and provide specializedcare.


Responsibilities:


Supervisedby and working closely with the Director of Psychiatric Services at EMH thejob duties of the nurse practitioner shall include but are not limited to:


Conduct health assessments such asrecording medical and psychosocial history

Record symptoms

Physically examine patients

Make diagnoses

Develop a treatment plan that mayinclude medication and other therapies

Educate patient on healthy habits toprevent diseases and maintain good health

Collaborate with other healthcareproviders including physicians and nurses

Order and interpret laboratorytest results

Follow up on patients to determinethe effectiveness of recommended treatments

The work that psychiatric nurse practitioners do is bothemotionally and mentally demanding. It requires a broad set of professionalskills honed over the course of their careers that allow these nursepractitioners to manage their stress and workload while providing a highlevelof care.


Professionalism: The subject of mental health can be difficult for patients andtheir families to openly discuss. It is important that psychiatric nurse practitionersact professionally showing respect and tact when communicating with patientsand their families and when assessing and evaluating a patients mentalhealth. They need to establish trust that will enable people to confide in themwhile maintaining organizational values and acting as an advocate for thosecoping with mental illness. In addition psychiatric nurse practitioners mustbe able to manage the pressure and stress that comes with their position.


Analytical Skills: Determining the scope and specifics of a mental illness can bedifficult because its signs are not often clear and may differ from patient topatient. Psychiatric nurse practitioners must be able to synthesize diversedata and patient research in conjunction with their indepth medical knowledgeand the insights from other professionals. The ability to analyze informationwill allow them to design plans for care and therapy for their patients.


Problem Solving: Psychiatric nurse practitioners find solutions. It is their job tohelp patients to manage their mental health issues. Problemsolving skills arenecessary throughout the treatment process. These skills help in identifyingkey risk factors such as medical and family history of mental illness traumasubstance abuse and environment among other factors. Psychiatric nursepractitioners must be able to collaborate with other professionals using logicand reason when addressing emotional topics. They are also responsible for thecontinual evaluation of a patients treatment plan and for finding alternatesolutions as new challenges arise.




Requirements

Qualifications

To furnish and bill Medicare for covered NP services an NP must be a registered professional nurse authorized by the State in which the services are furnished to practice as an NP in accordance with State law and must also meet one of the below criteria.

  • Obtained Medicare billing privileges as an NP for first time on/after January 1 2003 is certified by a recognized national certifying body and has a masters or doctoral degree in nursing
  • Obtained Medicare billing privileges as an NP for first time before January 1 2003 and is certified by a recognized national certifying body
  • Obtained Medicare billing privileges as an NP for first time before January 1 2001
