About the position:

The Materials & Corrosion Engineer is a part of Materials & Corrosion team within the Materials Equipment Quality (MEQ) chapter at the Chevron ENGINE and is responsible for providing metallurgy corrosion failure analysis welding coatings nonmetallics and cathodic protection consulting services to Chevron Upstream and Midstream Business Units and Capital Projects to ensure reliability and integrity of piping equipment structures and pipelines.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with SMEs at CTC and within the ENGINE to develop and deploy materials corrosion coatings and welding solutions.

  • Make fitforpurpose materials selections for new and replacement piping and equipment.

  • Predict corrosion rates in upstream production environments using corrosion modeling tools.

  • Review and analyze corrosion monitoring and inhibition data to optimize corrosion control program.

  • Review welding procedures and support qualification of welding procedures. Troubleshoot welding fabrication issues.

  • Make coating systems selections and review coatings application procedures.

  • Review cathodic protection (CP) designs for onshore and subsea pipelines.

  • Support metallurgical failure analysis of piping and equipment.

  • Provide technical input to support damage mechanism identification corrosion assessments inspection plans.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy Corrosion Materials Engineering or related engineering discipline from a recognized (AICTE) University.

  • Skilled competency level in upstream oilfield metallurgy and corrosion.

  • Skilled competency level in welding coatings cathodic protection and nonmetallics

  • Fundamental knowledge of relevant technical codes and standards (NACE MR0175 API 571 ASME B31.3 B31.4 B31.8 ASME BPV Sec VIII ASME Sec IX ASME PCC2

  • Fundamental competency level in fixed equipment (piping equipment pipelines heat exchangers tanks) integrity management.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years corrosion and materials engineering experience with 7 years in the upstream oil and gas industry.

  • Masters degree in Corrosion Metallurgy or Materials Engineering

  • Handson field experience at an upstream operating facility

  • NACE Specialist/Technologist certification in materials selection corrosion control cathodic protection or pipeline integrity management.

  • Professional Engineering registration

  • Experience with data analytics and digital tools


Chevron ENGINE supports global operations supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
