West Basin operates the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility (ECLWRF) and three satellite treatment plants. The ECLWRF is the largest treatment and water purification facility of its type providing nearly 40 million gallons of water each day to over 400 sites. West Basin utilizes various advanced treatment processes to produce five types of fitforpurpose waters used for commercial industrial and landscape purposes.
West Basin owns and operates over 100 miles of recycled water pipelines and supplies recycled water to customers for nonpotable use. To expand the use of recycled water the District assists customers with the process of converting their sites to recycled water use. In addition the District conducts site inspections to ensure compliance with the safe use of recycled water.

The Operations Intern will work within the Districts Operations Department collaborating with Construction Managers Facility Maintenance Professionals Engineers and Water Quality Compliance Analysts on a variety of projects. Responsibilities include tasks related to the development storage and distribution of recycled water as well as permitting reporting and compliance. Specific duties involve data collection data entry for process monitoring and control and preparing treatment plant operational reports. The internship offers both handson field experience and professional office skills development in water production and service. Interns will gain valuable experience in water treatment facility operations and optimization including distribution systems treatment plants asset management compliance facility maintenance and construction projects.

The Operations Intern must meet oneof the following two requirements:
Majors in Engineering Environmental Science or a closely related technical water field are required to be considered. Applicants who are both not currently enrolled in an accredited college and who graduated before December 2024 will not be considered.
The candidate must possess excellent communication and technical skills the ability to work effectively in a team environment have comprehensive computer skills and possess strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with District Board members managers staff vendors consultants and representatives of other governmental agencies encountered in the course of employment. The candidate must also have the ability to exercise sound judgment within established guidelines.
The Intern position is a parttime/temporary atwill position. The Intern must be able to work for at least a minimum of six months. Work hours are flexible and average approximately 1520 hours maximum per week in the fiscalyear period: July June.School schedule will be accommodated.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to occasionally lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds; kneel crouch stand walk twist reach or bend for prolonged periods and occasionally be available at times other than regularly scheduled work hours such as nights and weekends. Weekend work may be required on an asneeded basis.
Possession of a valid Class C California Drivers License proof of insurance and an acceptable driving record are preferred at the time of appointment. The employee is required to use their vehicle with mileage reimbursed at the standard IRS rate.
This parttime/temporary atwill position pays $18.00 $21.00 per hour depending on qualifications. This position is not eligible for District benefits.
