Job Description

The Department of Health Policy and Management at the Texas A&M University School of Public Health (SPH) invites applications for a tenured tenuretrack or academic professional track (nontenure) position with a fulltime 9month appointment. Applicants will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice Associate Professor of Practice or Professor of Practice or the rank of Instructional Assistant Professor Instructional Associate Professor or Instructional Professor depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will direct our Master of Health Administration (MHA) program.

The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary academic teams to teach courses in health management and health administration provide mentoring for MHA students and if in a tenured/tenuredtrack track position contribute to health management scholarship. The Department is especially interested in applicants with training and demonstrated interest in health management.

Faculty enjoy fullyfunded 9month appointments with teaching research and service responsibilities as appropriate for their rank and track. This appointment is scheduled to start August 1st 2025 though the formal start date is negotiable.

The Department is seeking a colleague qualified to direct the MHA Program who can effectively develop and execute a vision for our Top 30 MHA program (residential) as well as a relaunched executive MHA (EMHA) program. The ideal candidate for this position will be effective at strategic planning academic assessment and studentfocused leadership. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of and ability to teach healthcare management. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled; however for best consideration candidates should apply prior to February 28 2025.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct all activities related to the MHA program including daytoday operations strategic objectives goals and longrange planning and implementation
  • Responsible for oversight of the MHA curriculum including course development and logistics with assistance from the Program Coordinator
  • Teach courses within the MHA including but not limited to internship and capstone courses and orientation to the degree/professionalism courses
  • Depending on expertise may teach subject matter courses within the degree
  • Lead the MHA Admissions and CAHME Accreditation Committees
  • Facilitate all aspects of current and future program accreditation
  • Direct supervision of program including student recruitment and marketing new student orientation and program evaluation and effectiveness
  • Serve as liaison with faculty who teach in the MHA program adjunct faculty and faculty from other schools who teach MHA students on issues tied to accreditation evaluation and student performance
  • Coordinate the MHA residency and culminating experience including developing connections with potential preceptor organizations and mentors in Texas and elsewhere. Assist students in locating projects and preceptors. Formalize scope of work plans and work with legal team on campus to get legal agreements in place with host organizations
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage alumni of the program assist with advancement activities and build relationships with external constituents and career placement service
  • Correspond with potential program applicants including but not be limited to the application and admissions process transcripts mandatory orientations registration coursework and degree requirements and related student inquiries
  • Provide oneonone student advising (with dedicated teaching faculty and staff) career counseling and monitor student progress toward degree

About the Department of Health Policy & Management

TheDepartmenthas 14 tenured and tenure track faculty as well as 7 academic professional track (APT) faculty members and is home to more than 120 graduate students. It offers a traditional Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a concentration in Health Policy & Management and a PhD in Health Services Research. The Department also houses a CAHMEaccredited Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree program that is well ranked byU.S. News and World Report. Additionally Department faculty teach in the School of Public Healths Bachelor of Science in Public Health generalist degree program which has more than 2400 majors.

The Department has a commitment to scholarly inquiry in a broad spectrum of areas. Research scholarship and creative activities in the department represent a wide array of disciplines expertise and interests. The Departments faculty have backgrounds in data science economics health services research public health political science dentistry law and management science. Our faculty members are highly collaborative with substantial research strengths across a variety of areas including health care access and delivery infrastructures quality of health care services critical access hospitals longterm care policies Medicaid managed care chronic disease burden maternal and child health health disparities data privacy as well as mental and behavioral health among others.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned master of healthcare administration degree or doctoral degree in healthcare management health services management public health health information technology health informatics or a related field and/or have an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in healthcare administration at the graduate level
  • Knowledge of CAHME accreditation standards and competencybased education
  • If pursuing the tenured or tenure track demonstrated research excellence in healthcare administration or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing accredited programs
  • Experience cultivating partnerships for internships and experiential learning
  • Experience teaching professional students in hybrid online or cohort learning environments
  • Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives
  • Active membership in Association of University Programs in Health Administration American College of Healthcare Executives Academy of Management American Public Health Association AcademyHealth or other relevant professional societies
