Description:
This part time position directs the endowed Graduate program in Art Education. The Program Director of Art Education will ensure academic excellence and innovation in art education coordinate the curriculum and faculty of the program provide oversight for practice initiatives in art education and promote partnerships that support student learning faculty practice and research initiatives in art education. This position also serves as the Director of The Artisan Center for Contemporary and Traditional Crafts. This position involves the development and ongoing support of Workshops and classes that consist of Textile Arts Stained Glass Paper Illustration Furniture building and others reporting to the Department chair and in conversation with the major donor.
Responsibilities:
Advance the APU mission vision and strategic plan.
Maintain active professional scholarship.
Ensure program compliance with State and Accreditation standards for Art education.
Provide oversight assistance of assessment and revision ensuring instruction is conducted with academic integrity and rigor
Active involvement in yearround student recruitment and admissions.
Plan for organize and lead the annual summer residency week (aligns with the MFA summer residency in early July dates vary).
Supervise assigned support staff when applicable.
Participates in faculty recruitment and evaluation
Collaborate with the College of the Arts Humanities Science and Theology School of the Arts Graduate Studies Students Services and Graduate Enrollment Services in matters of common concern
Maintain ongoing relationships with the local art education community and the greater art education field
Coordinate graduate class scheduling in art education
Coordinate adjunct faculty teaching in art education
Manage the budget of the graduate art education area
Support student success and retention by working with other team members faculty and advisors while maintaining confidentiality of vital information.
Serve on University committees as assigned.
Additional responsibilities include providing support for faith integration across the curriculum having an ongoing professional research agenda and active participation in service to the University through committee participation School and/or University level as well as service to the broader professional community.

Provide consistent student advising program progress and completion.
The ability to teach in a variety of instructional environments including: online facetoface and hybrid formats is required.
Must maintain ongoing connection and collaboration with the California Council for Teacher Education (CCTE) and other relevant professional education organizations.
Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean
If being considered for the program director: the candidate must have prior higher education teaching experience. The program director will be responsible for coordinating with recruiting and admissions leadership curricular updates and alignment with accreditation standards course scheduling and student advising.
Level: Faculty rank commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will possess the following:
PhD or EdD in Art Education or an MFA in Art.
At least three years of teaching at the collegiate/university level.
Record of strong scholarship administrative experience and excellent interpersonal skills required.
A commitment to excellence in teaching and research.
Ability to develop and evaluate new and existing programs.
Active engagement in Curriculum and Program development.
Skilled in power tool usage hand tools paper making printmaking textile printing and other crafts/hand work related expertise.
Transparent collaborative leadership ability.
A demonstrated vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University. (Faculty members are required to sign a Statement of Faith available at and to adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook)
Demonstration of collegial teamwork desire to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the School of the Arts Graduate Studies and Undergraduate Studies as applicable.
Experience with assistive technology tools and instructional strategies
Experience: Professional expertise and experience commensurate with specific position requirements.
