Job Description

The GM certified diesel technician is responsible for performing maintenance troubleshooting and repairs on diesel engines found in GM vehicles. This role requires expertise in diagnosing mechanical electrical and electronic issues as well as proficiency in using specialized diagnostic equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests on diesel engines to identify issues. Perform repairs and replacements of faulty components including but not limited to fuel systems exhaust systems turbochargers cooling systems and emissions control systems
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes filter replacements and fluid checks to ensure diesel engines operate efficiently and reliably
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic components including wiring harnesses sensors ECMs (Engine Control Modules) and other control systems
  • Accurately document all repairs maintenance tasks and diagnostic findings using electronic systems or service manuals to maintain detailed records and facilitate effective communication with other team members
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and colleagues. Follow GMs safety guidelines and regulations while performing repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Strive to deliver exceptional customer service and satisfaction
  • Stay updated on the latest GM diesel engine technologies diagnostic techniques and repair procedures through ongoing training and certification programs provided by GM or other accredited institutions

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a certified automotive technology program or apprenticeship
  • GM diesel engine certification or willingness to obtain certification
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment such as scan tools oscilloscopes and multimeters
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks in various weather conditions and confined spaces
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record
  • Drug testing required

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a diesel technician preferably in a dealership or automotive repair shop
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in diesel engine repair
  • Familiarity with GM vehicles and their diesel engine systems
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking repairs and maintenance schedules
