Job Summary:
This is a unique opportunity to work in the Section of Hand Wrist and Elbow Surgery in an academic and clinical Orthopedic Surgery practice. The position will be a fulltime exempt (nonhourly) Instructor Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Orthopedics. This is a position requiring interest in Orthopedic Surgery and the subspecialties of hand upper extremity and peripheral nerve surgery. The position is not eligible for tenure.
This position works primarily Monday Friday starting around 6:30 AM and will be located primarily in the Denver Metropolitan area. Early morning meetings and shifts extending beyond 8 hours may be necessary with advance notice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute/chronic medical problems (focusing on the musculoskeletal and peripheral nervous systems) and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population.
- Writes prescriptions for medications PT OT imaging studies and DME as needed and based on appropriate guidelines.
- Completes Work Status FMLA and other forms and school notes as needed.
- Assists in providing preop and postop care; writes appropriate orders including those for narcotics and other scheduled .
- Performs casting splinting and dressing applications as appropriate.
- Performs emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest respiratory arrest massive hemorrhage or similar emergencies.
- Coordinates daily inpatient care as needed with the Hospitalist and other consulting services. When necessary is responsible for the timely discharge of patients from the hospital and completion of discharge summaries.
- Notifies attending physician on call house physician on call or supervising physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.
- Practices safety environmental and/or infection control methods.
- Coordinates the activities of patient care with residents / fellows and clinic support staff. Works with the team to ensure smooth transitions of care.
- Writes progress notes on patients outpatient or hospital charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintains other records as required.
- Provides timely communications to patients and health care team members regarding the diagnostic evaluation and treatment of patient conditions.
- Provides health education to patients and families; may train and supervise medical students and other health professional students engaged in specific clinical activities.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs current literature review inservice meetings and workshops.
- Participates in department and section Patient Safety / M&M Conferences.
- Participates in Section and Department faculty meetings where appropriate.
- Helps develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and postoperative care.
- Assists in preparing and giving power point and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional local and national meetings when appropriate.
- Participates in clinical research and may assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication.
- Becomes proficient in documentation and use of current the electronic medical record program and be an available resource to other health care providers.
- Competent with sterile technique and surgical assistant skills when needed.
- Is responsible for maintaining compliance and coordinating the implementation of Clinical Leadership Council initiatives with the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs.
- Responsibilities include participation in a call rotation with details to be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- State of Colorado Certified Physicians Assistant or Inclusion on the State of Colorado Advanced Practice Registry as an Advance Practice Nurse
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants
- CPR Certified

- 6 months to 1 year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
