The University of Utah invites applications for a tenuretrack faculty position in Public Administration at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning July 1 2024. We seek candidates with expertise in some area of public administration public management or nonprofit management. The position is open in regards to research foci and we invite all interested candidates to apply. In addition we are interested in candidates whose work engages contemporary issues such as but not limited to one of the following: attempts to redefine the public sector by dismantling meritbased employment undermining of public health policies enacted during COVID 19 climate change environmental justice and policies/programs having to do with topics such as reproductive health affirmative action equity diversity and inclusion including challenges to those policies/programs among others. Candidates should have a PhD in public administration nonprofit/philanthropy or political science or a JD focused on public/administrative law and a robust research agenda in areas such as those mentioned. We seek candidates that can help diversify our facultys lived experiences and those adept at applying a critical lens to their teaching and research. The position carries a 4 course/year teaching responsibility primarily in the Master of Public Administration MPA program with an emphasis on core courses such as human resources management budgeting and finance administrative theory public law and administration and/or ethics. There is also potential to contribute to the Master of Public Policy MPP program. Our NASPAA accredited MPA program has a near 50year record training public and nonprofit leaders in the Intermountain West. We offer inperson hybrid and online courses three semesters per year. The successful candidate will join an effort to launch an independent Division of Public Affairs. The Division will bring together three professional public service graduate programs the MPA MPP and Master of Science in International Affairs and Global Enterprise MIAGE under the same academic unit. Thus alongside the aforementioned research and teaching expertise we encourage candidates with experience in program administration and/or programmatic reorganization and change. The successful candidate will be appointed to the Department of Political Science upon hiring and will transfer to the new Division at the time of its creation alongside other public administration faculty.
