School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry Addiction Research & Treatment Services (ARTS) Adult Outpatient Program

Job Title:Phlebotomist and Abstinence Monitor

Position: #Requisition: #36154

Job Summary:

This position accurately collects and handles appropriate patient biological samples for diagnosis treatment and prevention of disease in support of AOPs clinical and medical operations. The position is also responsible for collecting urinalysis specimens from patients (observation of samesex urine specimen provision) as well as conducting breathalyzer testing of patients and recording the results. This position requires working at all three of the ARTS locations on a rotating schedule throughout the week.

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday 5:00am to 1:30pm. This position may work periodically on some Saturdays from 5:00am to 10:00am based on the need of the agency not to exceed 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure blood from patients by venipuncture fingerstick heelstick or other appropriate techniques to obtain blood samples for analysis perform phlebotomyrelated functions according to guidelines established by applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Accurately labels processes and delivers specimens for testing and/or analysis adheres to universally accepted standards in ensuring the cleanliness of work area and appropriately maintains supplies and equipment and performs inventory and general maintenance as required.
  • Performs clerical tasks at AOP clinics as necessary or assigned including answering calls and entering data ensures patient is correctly identified through the patient health record system and resolves errors or questionable orders in a timely manner and maintain knowledge of proper procedure for the collection processing and shipping of blood and/or other biological samples.
  • Strictly adhere to and uphold all applicable federal and state compliance regulations compliance policies and procedures records test results accurately in patients health records and continuously maintains accurate and uptodate patient records and/or notes as required by policy.
  • Gathers and/or reports patient statistical data for reporting purposes.
  • Periodically perform Front desk/Reception duties including but not limited to providing inperson and telephone reception providing information on program services administer confidential patient records and information as well as other general clinic front desk duties and work comfortably among patients with or in the process of recovering from substance use disorder.
  • Other duties as assigned by MAT Program Director.

Work Location:

Onsite this role is expected to work onsite and will be located in Denver Arvada and/or Aurora CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possess in good standing a valid Intravenous (IV) certification or licensure.
  • Valid certification as a phlebotomy technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a professional clinical or research setting.
  • Experience working with patients who have a substance use disorder.
  • Experience observing monitoring and intervening in drug/alcohol treatment.
  • Experience working with patients who are involved with probation human services and/or other referral sources.
  • Experience using an electronic patient health record system.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must maintain valid IV certification throughout employment in this position.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range or hiring range for this position has been established as $40908 $47455.

The above salary range or hiring range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
