The Pacific University Music Therapy program was established in 2014 and has grown to host over 20 music therapy majors today. We are seeking a fulltime Clinical Coordinator (nontenure track) to support and grow our program to meet the educational needs of the 21st century music therapy student. The Clinical Coordinators responsibilities will include clinical coordination of student practicum placements including some site supervision teaching Music Therapy courses under the supervision of the Director of Music Therapy and normal departmental responsibilities as assigned by the department chair.

Essential Functions/ Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preinternship practicum placements
  • Network and develop affiliations with relevant community sites
  • Provide onsite clinical supervision to practicum students at affiliated community sites
  • Teach music therapy coursework as designated by the Director of Music Therapy
  • Provide academic clinical supervision via Clinical Seminar classes to music therapy practicum students
  • Consult and work with the Director of Music Therapy to ensure students are meeting clinical competencies in preparation for internship placement
  • Engage in ongoing clinical supervision and continuing education opportunities consistent with professional standards
  • Adhere to AMTA Standards of Clinical Practice and Code of Ethics
  • Comply with applicable federal and/or state laws regulations and/or agency rules standards and guidelines etc. including requirements for board certification and licensure as appropriate

Secondary Functions

  • Provide mentorship to students in the Music Therapy program
  • Serve as an academic advisor to MT students as needed
  • Collaborate with the Director of Music Therapy on the planning and creation of the course schedule in MT
  • Work with colleagues in the Department of Music to provide general support to the program and its students
  • Promote the Music Therapy program to prospective students
  • Assist in the regular assessment of MT courses and the learning outcomes of the MT program
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Scope

One of two positions in the Music Therapy program this position is expected to operate within the guidelines of the University Faculty Handbook and provide leadership within the Music Therapy program and the Department of Music. Creativity innovation and a demonstrated commitment to delivering a robust Music Therapy education is expected. Annual performance reviews will be completed to assess the effectiveness of the Clinical Coordinator and provide a pathway to constant improvement and growth.

Supervisor Responsibility

May involve supervising student workers in the program. No other supervisory duties are expected however the Clinical Coordinator does supervise Music Therapy students who are placed in professional clinical environments to insure they perform at defined standards and grow as therapists.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Music Therapy or related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours or the equivalent number of postgraduate credits in music therapy (beyond undergraduate equivalency requirements)
  • MTBC with at least 3 years of fulltime music therapy clinical experience or its parttime equivalent
  • Demonstrated mastery of all professional competencies in music therapy
  • Effective interpersonal communication organization and collaboration skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience with undergraduate music therapy practicum students
  • Teaching experience at the college level
  • Strong clinical musicianship skills
  • Specialization or advanced training/experience in at least one area of clinical practice

  • Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language filters listening paraphrasing and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment.

Working conditions

Inperson teaching in a traditional classroom environment. Salaried does not have the option for overtime. Regular Travel to clinical locations in the PortlandMetro area required for student supervision.
