The Academic Language/Dyslexia Therapist is responsible for assessing and providing targeted intervention for students with dyslexia and related learning challenges. Utilizing evidencebased practices this position focuses on enhancing students reading writing and comprehension skills while promoting their overall academic success. The therapist collaborates with educators parents and specialists to create individualized learning plans that address each students unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students strengths and areas of need related to language processing and literacy.
- Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and intervention strategies.
- Intervention and Instruction:
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans based on student assessments and curriculum standards.
- Provide direct instruction in reading writing and language skills using multisensory and evidencebased approaches.
- Monitor student progress regularly and adjust interventions as needed to ensue effectiveness.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with classroom teachers special education staff and other professionals to support students learning goals.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress strategies for support at home and resources for further assistance.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with research and best practices in dyslexia therapy and academic language instruction.
- Provide training and support to educators on strategies to assist students with dyslexia and related challenges in the classroom.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of assessments interventions and student progress in compliance with school policies.
- Prepare reports and participate in meetings regarding student performance and program effectiveness.
- Advocacy:
- Advocate for students needs and promote awareness of dyslexia and language processing disorders within the school community.
- Engage in outreach efforts to educate parents and staff about dyslexia and effective intervention strategies.
- Support the Mission:
- Uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission on the school acting as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Schurch.
- Adhere to all policies outlines in the Catholic Schools Office Handbook and the TCCB ED Guide to Quality and Effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Special Education Literacy or related field (preferred).
- Certification as a Dyslexia Therapist or equivalent credentials.
- Experience working with students with dyslexia or languagebased learning disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of evidencebased literacy interventions and assessment tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of students parents and educators.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with multisensory strategies (e.g. OrtonGillingham approach).
- Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Understanding of child development and learning theories.
