About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the postsecondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The Colleges fifth president Dr. Mary Way Bolt reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Marylands most northeastern county just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore as well as from Wilmington Delaware.

With a diverse student population Cecil College enrolls approximately 2500 credit students and 3400 noncredit students. Cecil offers associate degrees certificate programs and noncredit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

Employees of Cecil College including instructors for online and virtual courses must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia or the District of Columbia.

JOB SUMMARY

The Camp Instructor position reports directly to the Camp Director and Lifelong Learning Coordinator. The instructor is responsible for classroom supervision of all camp participants. Camp Instructors are responsible for organizing the classroom including all aspects of safety learning and communication. Safety protocols include monitoring behavior keeping accurate attendance records reporting any and all injury and/or behavioral issues to the Camp Director and Coordinator monitoring camper health records and providing measures to properly adhere to any special health circumstances (such as allergies or other health concerns) and making sure the activities and equipment are safe. Instructors are responsible for providing a meaningful and responsive learning environment that is engaging and fun. Instructors must turn in camp curricula for each camp week they teach. These curricula include supply lists as supplies are provided accordingly at the start of each camp. Instructors are responsible for effective communication with staff including the Camp Director Coordinator other staff and counselors regarding safety issues behavioral issues supply needs equipment updates or needs and environmental concerns such as temperature. Instructors are also responsible for communicating with parents regarding program activities injuries and behavioral concerns as they arise.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop curricula and activities based on the camp theme provided.
  • Lead campers through handson activities labs presentations and experiments.
  • Ensure the campers are supervised at all times and maintain a safe and enjoyable camp environment.
  • Act as a leader for all Counselors and CounselorsinTraining (CITs) providing them with instructions for daily activities.
  • Track each campers medical conditions as well as photo release restrictions.
  • Keep track of supplies for the camp and convey to the Director any camp needs.
  • Perform headcounts of participants throughout the day.
  • Ensure participants are safe (properly hydrated playing areas are free of hazards etc..
  • Ensure the teaching space is clean and organized at the end of each day.
  • Follow all protocols found in the camp standard operating procedures.
  • Interact with parents/guardians during dropoff and pickup times in a positive manner.
  • Assign duties for daily setup and cleanup of the camp area.
  • Carrying/keep track of activity supplies throughout campus as well as offsite.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • EXPERIENCE: Teaching public speaking leading classroom organization and design.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check including child protection service clearance.
  • Instructor is required to follow any and all other instructions/duties as requested by the Camp Director and/or Coordinator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift and move up to a maximum of 20 lbs. The physical activity of this position includes but is not limited to: climbing walking stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing pulling lifting grasping twisting and sitting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms e.g. use of safe workplace practices with office equipment avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.

This is a temporary position for summer 2025 based upon the summer dates identified by the Director at time of hire
