Main Purpose of Job
To provide speech language AAC and aural rehabilitation services to MSD students including those who may have multiple disabilities. SpeechLanguage services help support a bilingual approach by facilitating and enhancing student communication skills.
POSITION DUTIES
Administer languagespeech AAC and auditory skill diagnostic evaluations;
Conduct speechlanguage speech reading AAC and auditory skills development;
Evaluate treatment andrevise as necessary;
Prepare and maintainnecessary records and report on student services and progress;
Participate in teamand community meetings;
Serve as an IEP teammember determine present levels of performance and establish goalsspecifically addressed to student needs;
Use developmentallyappropriate activities a variety of therapy materials various assistivetechnology and oralmotor strategies as needed;
Adapt therapystrategies to facilitate student progress including service delivery methods(services both inside and outside of the classroom);
Consult with otherprofessional and nonprofessional personnel including conferences with parentsand classroom staff concerning student performance;
Assist with trainingof classroom staff regarding amplification equipment feeding/swallowingprecautions and/or augmentative communication use;
Conduct and participatein seminars inservice and professional training programs;
Maintainconfidentiality pertaining to students care;
Assume otherresponsibilities as designated by the Department Head.
Candidate must have:
Knowledge of thetheory principles and practices of speechlanguage pathology;
Evaluations andtreatment should be conducted with the unique deaf and hard of hearingpopulation in mind. Considerations of hearing levels language abilities andcultural diversity are essential to meeting the needs of this population.
Proficiency with orthe ability to use a variety of computer programs and applications (i.e.Google MS Word Boardmaker Maryland Online IEP program etc.
Basic level signlanguage skills is a must with willingness to improve ASL skills to achievefluency.
Additional desirableknowledge: Phonological Awareness ABA experience AAC experienceFeeding/Swallowing experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Set by the Maryland State Board of Examiners for SpeechLanguagePathologists under the licensing requirements.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be willing tolearn American Sign Language.
Must possess andmaintain certification through the American SpeechLanguage HearingAssociation.
Must take initiative toremain current in clinical practice through lectures literature and othereducational opportunities.
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for thisposition must possess or be qualified to receive a current license from theMaryland State Board of Examiners for SpeechLanguage Pathologists 4201Patterson Avenue Baltimore Maryland 21215.
Employees in this classmust renew their license in accordance with Title 19 SpeechLanguagePathology Health Occupations Article and Annotated Code of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25 of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75 of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
