Position Summary
Under the direction of the School Leader or other certificated employee the Instructional Aide/After School Instructor will assist by performing a variety of instructional support duties to individual or small groups of students within the special education setting or regular classroom during and after school hours. These duties shall be designed to complement the instructional program to maximize the learning opportunity for the inclusion student. The Instructional Aide will also assist in the establishment and implementation of appropriate classroom and schoolwide behavior and perform a routine of clerical tasks as assigned.
In addition the Instructional Aide/After School Instructor will work directly with a group of 6080 elementary school students providing homework assistance academic support and enrichment activities after school on site at KIPP Bayview Elementary. Candidates ability to establish authority through leadership communication and most importantly patience is essential to success.
Must be able to commit to working throughout the entire school year.
This role is paid over a 12 month period including scheduled school breaks and summer break. The salary range for this position is $20.92 $24.84 / hour. This rate coupled with the additional 60 days of school break pay we offer results in annualized pay that is on average significantly more than our district peers.
Qualifications
Experience:
A minimum of 12 years work experience in a youth development organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people or equivalent experience.
Required Education/Certifications:
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Title I paraprofessionals whose duties include instructional support must have:
- High school diploma or the equivalent and one of the below:
- A.A. degree or
- B.A. degree (or minimum 48 units in process) or
- Pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment (passing score 460
- Pass the CBEST exams
Knowledge/skills required:
- Strong communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to deal effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability working with young people parents and community leaders.
- Have proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom Hangout Docs Sheets Slides etc.
- Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Public Schools Northern Californias mission and values
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Implement after school activities within assigned core program areas including academic assistance homework club fitness/recreation arts and enrichment activities.
- Assist in documenting program schedules lesson plans curriculum youth participation and outcomes
- Use positive behavior and classroom management techniques with children.
- Accurately track student attendance (signin/signout sheets) on a daily basis.
- Assist with after school program registration customer service and community outreach.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety to ensure the safety of students staff members and others.
- Participate in all after school activities including preparation setup takedown and cleanup to ensure facility cleanliness.
- Communicate and work effectively with students staff parents school personnel and community partners.
- Under the direction of the Lead Teacher work with students in small groups or in onetoone assignments to tutor reinforce or follow up learning activities in core academic language and/or specialized subject areas.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a clean safe and cooperative classroom and learning environment.
- Prepare and set up instructional materials and/or equipment for use in classroom activities; maintain instructional material and equipment.
- Assist classroom teachers in creating curriculum modifications for students.
- Provide testing accommodations including supervising students completing tests in a separate location or during an extended time.
- Review and correct student work assignments.
- Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans which may involve use of approved positive reinforcement strategies behavior modification other skills or knowledge to establish and maintain appropriate behaviors.
- Facilitate and support social interactions and foster the development of positive relationships between students with disabilities and their nondisabled peers.
- Assist all students by modeling appropriate behavior and attitudes and providing emotional support and general guidance.
- Support students to be active participants on field trips and school assemblies or productions.
- Support students in communitybased life skills activities such as using public transportation shopping and ordering food as directed by the Education Specialist.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Physical Mental and Environmental Demands
Physical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 135 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively which may include frequent kneeling walking pushing/pulling squatting twisting turning bending stooping and reaching overhead.
Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives work with interruptions concentrate for long periods of time read calculate perform routine math problems memorize and recall objects and people.
Environmental: School and inperson classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPPs health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC CDE and public health agencies recommendations.
Classification and Schedule
This is a full time nonexempt position based on a school year calendar cycle and time off policy located at our school sites.
