MGMA is looking for a Director Meetings and Conferences to join our Denver/hybrid team.


The Director Meetings and Conferences is responsible for overseeing all aspects of conference performance including financial return attendee experience planning and of MGMAs facetoface conferences to create a bestinclass experience. The Director will work with key stakeholders in the organization to create the vision of MGMAs conferences and will lead the events from inception through delivery.


Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Creates a compelling value proposition for new and returning attendees ensuring the promise of each event is created and executed onsite.
  • Responsible for the attendance goals and associated revenue in partnership with marketing and sales.
  • Develops and manages all conference budgets ensuring strong profitability of each event and the overall portfolio of conferences.
  • Provides onsite leadership for members and staff to ensure all functions and programs occur as planned and within budget while monitoring service levels provided by all suppliers.
  • Oversees the planning and of the MGMA event portfolio leveraging capable event planners and outside suppliers.
  • Leads negotiations and recommendations for service contracts for convention facilities hotels audio/visual decorations travel agencies and other vendors in a collaborative manner with team inclusion.
  • Manages thirdparty offerings including registration housing and lead retrieval. Spearheads adding and subtracting thirdparty offerings as necessary in the management of the event portfolio.
  • Directs the site selection process for future meetings.
  • Provides leadership and expertise to evaluate and enhance conferences.
  • Creates effective team management policies procedures and processes within Meetings and Conferences and the departments with which the team works.
  • Ensures appropriate reporting is in place for all key stakeholders to include but not limited to financial attendee exhibitor/sponsorship and operational progress. Provides comprehensive postevent report to said key stakeholders.
  • Other duties as required and necessary to ensure the success of the organization.

Supervisory duties


Direct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees planning assigning and directing work including goal setting appraising performance rewarding and disciplining employees addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking creativity sound judgment and troubleshooting skills.
  • Agility in work style and ability to respond in a flexible manner to changing needs and priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to convey complex ideas.
  • Provide financial and strategic backup (business acumen) financial modeling

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Hotel and/or Meeting Management or a related field is required.
  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) or Certification in Exhibition Management (CEM) is preferred.
  • Masters degree in a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • Seven 7 or more years of experience in meeting planning is required.
  • Familiarity with the health care industry is highly preferred.
  • Experience in Association Conference planning preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.


Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers fax machines and scanners.
  • Will need to attend conferences and MGMA events in various locations around the United States on a regular basis. Will need to attend conferences and sales events in various locations around the United States on a regular basis a minimum of one 1 to four 4 times per year (approximately 30 travel per year) is expected.
  • Regular predictable attendance is required.

  • Ability to operate PC/keyboard and other office productivity equipment
  • Ability to position self to traverse/navigate around typical office setting
  • Ability pull/push lift open/close grasp/manipulate transport up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
