Responsibilities
The Transplant Center and Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona seeks a highly qualified experienced cardiothoracic surgeon to join our lung transplant program. Candidates must be boardcertified/boardeligible in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The ideal candidate has experience in Lung Transplantation.

The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team that has significant expertise and experience. The clinical practice will include all aspects of lung transplantation in addition to support the interest of the individual as it relates to cardiothoracic surgery (including heart transplantation). The individual will report to the Surgical Director of Lung Transplantation the respective Division Chair and the Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Research engagement is highly encouraged including participation in clinical trials utilization of artificial intelligence or big data equitable care and regenerative medicine. There are unique opportunities to grow clinical medicine utilizing the Mayo Clinic Model of Care and practice in one of the largest solid organ transplant programs nationwide as well as participate in innovation at Mayo Clinic.

Mayo Clinic is excited to expand its Transplant Center as it launches a Lung Transplant Program in Arizona. It will complement the wellestablished kidney pancreas liver and heart transplant programs. With stateoftheart facilities cuttingedge technology and a wealth of experience Mayo Clinic is wellpositioned to uphold its tradition of excellence in solid organ transplantation.

Mayo Clinic in Arizona performs over 800 solid organ transplants annually. The Transplant Center is known for its innovative approach to patient care pioneering transplant research and postgraduate education opportunities. A team of specialists in medical and surgical disciplines including nursing psychology social work respiratory/physical/occupational therapy pharmacy and nutrition supports the transplant programs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Board certified in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Meet eligibility requirements of Primary Lung Transplant Surgeon delineated in UNOS bylaws
  • Successful completion of a 23 year accredited cardiothoracic surgery fellowship along with a fellowship training in Lung Transplantation (or an equivalent)
  • M.D. D.O. or equivalent degree who is eligible to be licensed to practice in Arizona

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of continued academic and scholarly activity in laboratory or clinical research; including those with interest in translational research
  • Superb clinician with understanding of cardiothoracic surgery ECMO and lung transplant practices
  • Drive ongoing practice innovation
  • Adept at working with all levels of staff and mentorship as applicable
  • Ability to seamlessly work in a multidisciplinary team concept and to build relationships and networks globally
