Duties and Responsibilities
  1. TeachintroductorycoursesinHawaiianlanguageincludingHawaiian100courses according to the established curriculum guidelines;
  2. Abletoteachassignedclassesinvariousmodesofinstruction(inpersononline synchronous asynchronous and hybrid);
  3. AssistinthedesignanddevelopmentofHawaiianlanguagecurriculumattheuniversity level including those appropriate for online courses;
  4. Provideservice inareas ofexpertise tothe universityand larger community;
  5. Maintainat leastone officehour perweek foreach section taught;
  6. Attend and participate in faculty meetings;
  7. Serve on faculty/administrative committees;
  8. Maintain an appropriate program of professional selfimprovement;
  9. Perform community service and related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. MastersdegreeinHawaiianLanguageorequivalentinrelevantfieldwithmajor work within the area of Hawaiian language;
  2. Thorough mastery of written and spoken Hawaiian language;
  3. Abilitytocommunicate clearlyand effectivelyin Hawaiianand English;
  4. Knowledge of Hawaiian culture and the practical application of this knowledge;
  5. Evidence of successful experience in teaching courses at the college level (as substantiatedbyrecentevaluationspeerevaluationsand/orcurrentprofessional references);
  6. Demonstratetheabilitytoworkeffectivelyandcollegiallywithstudentsfaculty staff and administration as substantiated by recent student evaluations peer evaluations and/or current professional references.


Desirable Qualifications
  1. Evidence of previous training in Hawaiian language teaching;
  2. EvidenceofsuccessfulHawaiianlanguageteachingasexemplifiedbyreviewsindicating excellence in teaching undergraduate courses and mentoring students;
  3. Evidence of experience in developing Hawaiian language curriculum materials;
  4. DemonstratesignificantknowledgeandexperienceofHawaiiancultureanditslinkto Hawaiian language; and
  5. DemonstrateknowledgeoftraditionalHawaiianwaysofknowingrelatedtoeducationand culture and a capacity for the practical application thereof.
