Duties and Responsibilities- TeachintroductorycoursesinHawaiianlanguageincludingHawaiian100courses according to the established curriculum guidelines;
- Abletoteachassignedclassesinvariousmodesofinstruction(inpersononline synchronous asynchronous and hybrid);
- AssistinthedesignanddevelopmentofHawaiianlanguagecurriculumattheuniversity level including those appropriate for online courses;
- Provideservice inareas ofexpertise tothe universityand larger community;
- Maintainat leastone officehour perweek foreach section taught;
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings;
- Serve on faculty/administrative committees;
- Maintain an appropriate program of professional selfimprovement;
- Perform community service and related tasks as assigned.
- MastersdegreeinHawaiianLanguageorequivalentinrelevantfieldwithmajor work within the area of Hawaiian language;
- Thorough mastery of written and spoken Hawaiian language;
- Abilitytocommunicate clearlyand effectivelyin Hawaiianand English;
- Knowledge of Hawaiian culture and the practical application of this knowledge;
- Evidence of successful experience in teaching courses at the college level (as substantiatedbyrecentevaluationspeerevaluationsand/orcurrentprofessional references);
- Demonstratetheabilitytoworkeffectivelyandcollegiallywithstudentsfaculty staff and administration as substantiated by recent student evaluations peer evaluations and/or current professional references.
Desirable Qualifications- Evidence of previous training in Hawaiian language teaching;
- EvidenceofsuccessfulHawaiianlanguageteachingasexemplifiedbyreviewsindicating excellence in teaching undergraduate courses and mentoring students;
- Evidence of experience in developing Hawaiian language curriculum materials;
- DemonstratesignificantknowledgeandexperienceofHawaiiancultureanditslinkto Hawaiian language; and
- DemonstrateknowledgeoftraditionalHawaiianwaysofknowingrelatedtoeducationand culture and a capacity for the practical application thereof.
