On Novemberwas launched in Canada as a new national threedigit number for suicide prevention and emotional distress. In 2022 CAMH was announced as the lead for the coordination and administration of 988 and has acted in this capacity to lead and coordinate the implementation of 988 and manage the operations and postlaunch activities. As of November 2023 this groundbreaking new service is available 24/7/365 in English and French and accessible to everyone from coast to coast to coast. CAMH is working closely with the federal government and key partners from different groups and communities provinces territories and building on our work on Talk Suicide Canada to deliver this high quality evidencebased equitable suicide prevention service to Canada.
Position Description
988 and CAMH Education are seeking two 2 fulltime permanent Community Health and Education (CH&E) Specialist (Instructional Designer) to support the design development and implementation of online courses and simulationbased learning for 988 responders.
Reporting to the Director of Community and Continuing Education with a dotted line to the Manager of 988 Partnerships and Strategy the CH&E Specialist will identify the training needs of the 988 target learners apply best practices in instructional design and curriculum development to create tailored interactive courses elearning programs and simulationbased education as well as support the creation of user guides webbased resources quick reference guides job aids and other learning and support materials as needed for 988 responders. They will also support evaluation of the learning strategies and disseminate reports to 988 leadership. The CH&E Specialist will apply adult education and learning theories and instructional design models as well as the principles of equity diversity inclusion and accessibility to the development of education and training. The successful candidate will generate evidencebased content for elearning programs and will also develop engaging learning activities that include branching scenarios case studies gamification and virtual simulation to enhance the 988 responders learning process.
The CH&E Specialist will collaborate with team members in the simulation centre digital innovation and evaluation teams as well as 988 subject matter experts including healthcare professionals and clinical teams and lived experience experts and other internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be involved in the creation of evaluation tools to assess outcomes of educational activities and will work collaboratively with research analysts and evaluation coordinators to report on educational outcomes and impact. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple aspects of work simultaneously and work independently as well as with a diverse team. The CH&E Specialist will keep up with best practices innovations research theories technologies and trends in the education field.
The candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 1025 Queen St West.
The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in Education Instructional Design Educational Technology or related discipline with three 3 years of experience in the field of adult education. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories instructional design models curriculum development and current and emerging learning technologies is required. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in several of the following areas as it relates to online learning is required: interprofessional collaboration and simulation adult education instructional design the educational needs of health professionals and other professional staff in addiction and mental health delivery of educational programming health promotion and prevention educational materials for patients and families research and evaluation.
