Kitikmeot School Operations invites applications for the following position: Principal

Grade: 712

The status of this position is: TERM

The position is 1.0 PY (fulltime position).

The Nunavut Department of Education is committed to supporting staff development through welldesigned professional learning opportunities. Nunavut schools are currently focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students and ensuring students learning experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.

Located in the picturesque hamlet of Cambridge Bay Kiilinik High School serves the community of Cambridge Bay. The school has a population of approximately 220 students in a 712 setting with a staff of 25. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • Teaching or principal certification acceptable for Nunavut certification
  • Minimum 3 years school leadership experience


Desired qualifications:

  • Graduate training in education
  • Evidence in leading effective teaching practice in the area of literacy
  • Experience in the development and promotion of professional learning communities
  • Experience in leading staff formative assessment protocols
  • Experience in using data analysis to support student learning
  • Successful northern/crosscultural teaching experience
  • Computer knowledge and experience with administrative software
  • Experience in dealing with sitebased management of school finances
  • Evidence of support and enhancement of bilingual school programming
  • Evidence/experience building positive relationships with students colleagues parents stakeholders
  • Knowledge of/experience with instructional leadership


Please note: Subsidized housing is available but sharing may be required.

The salary for certified teachers ranges from $83643 prorated/annum. to $131151 prorated/annum.

The Principal administrative allowance is currently $15579 prorated/annum.

The Northern Allowance for Cambridge Bay is $19716 prorated/annum.
