ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Atlanta International School (AIS) unites students educators and families from Atlanta and around the world with a shared mission: to develop courageous leaders who shape their world for the better.

Our community represents 90 nationalities and over 60 languages. Starting in August 2025 AISs Upper School will span two campuses: the Buckhead Campus for Grades 3K12 day students and the Sandy Springs Campus for Grades 912 day and boarding students.

JOB PURPOSE

AIS teachers inspire students from diverse backgrounds to become courageous leaders in a culturally responsive and restorative learning environment. We are a team of innovative educators dedicated to creating inquirybased lessons that foster critical thinking problemsolving and creativity. At AIS teachers ignite and sustain student curiosity by cocreating meaningful learning experiences that encourage students to apply their knowledge and skills for positive impact. As part of the Sandy Springs Campus team youll work with both day and residential students in a beautiful naturerich setting that enhances the educational experience.

This role is a unique opportunity to be part of the founding team building our new Sandy Springs campus. As an essential member of our collaborative Secondary School Team youll help shape and grow this new campus bringing resilience adaptability and a solutionfocused mindset essential for a startup environment. Teachers at the Sandy Springs Campus benefit from strong support within a unified dualcampus structure working closely with IB Coordinators a departmental leader and a team of subject teachers at the Buckhead Campus. This partnership enables a rich exchange of resources expertise and shared goals across both campuses.

This is a fulltime position teaching MYP Design DP Design Technology and Engineering (elective) at the Sandy Springs Campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Teacher of Design and Engineering in Grades 612 you will be expected to contribute to a stimulating and inclusive learning environment. A passion for working with adolescent learners flexible attitude and a sense of humor are essential. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Design and Deliver Engaging Learning Experiences
  2. Foster an Inclusive and Supportive Classroom Environment
    • Create a classroom culture that values equity inclusivity and a sense of belonging.
    • Establish clear consistent expectations with student input fostering a safe space for all voices to be heard and respected.
    • Encourage collaboration empathy and a communitycentered approach to learning.
  3. Support SocialEmotional Learning and Student Wellbeing
    • Provide pastoral support as an advisor to a group of students within a specified grade level building relationships and guiding students personal and social development.
    • Enthusiastically participate in an annual weeklong overnight trip fostering resilience teamwork and independence among students.
    • Facilitate an extracurricular activity or coach a sport offering students opportunities to explore their interests develop skills and strengthen their sense of community.
  4. Implement Effective Assessment Practices
    • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments aligned with IB standards to monitor and support student progress.
    • Provide timely constructive feedback that promotes continuous growth and selfreflection.
    • Document and share student achievements using schoolapproved platforms to maintain transparency with students and guardians.
  5. Supervise IB Personal Projects and Extended Essays
    • Guide students in the development of their IB Personal Projects and/or Extended Essays supporting them in conducting research refining their inquiry skills and presenting their findings.
    • Provide mentorship and feedback to help students achieve their project goals while developing independence and academic integrity.
  6. Collaborate with Colleagues and Engage in Professional Growth
    • Work with other educators to plan interdisciplinary units that connect learning across subjects.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development including IB training to stay current with best practices.
    • Contribute to the school communitys positive culture by modeling ethical academic practices and supporting IB policies.
  7. Support Holistic Student Development
    • Encourage students to set learning goals pursue personal inquiries and reflect on their growth.
    • Guide students in connecting their learning to local and global contexts inspiring them to take meaningful action in their communities.
    • Help students explore and celebrate their personal and cultural identities within the framework of IBs commitment to internationalmindedness.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background & Professional Experience

  • A relevant Bachelors degree or equivalent (Masters degree preferred)
  • MYP Design
    • Minimum 2 years experience teaching MYP Design (Product & Digital)
  • DP Design Technology
    • Minimum 2 years experience teaching DP Design Technology
  • Engineering
    • Experience teaching Engineering (Mechanical and/or electrical)
    • A vision for developing an Engineering course suitable for High School students

Specialized Skills

  • Experience teaching CAD software to middle and High School students.
  • Experience using and teaching CAM/CNC equipment such as Laser Cutters and 3D Printers.
  • Experience using and teaching workshop equipment and machinery.
  • Experience teaching the design thinking process

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team within a startup environment
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive dynamic classroom that supports diverse learning needs
