Idaho Power located in vibrant Boise Idaho is looking for a Wildfire Mitigation Risk Analyst to join our Wildfire Mitigation Team. This is a fulltime permanent role. Its an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in the communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon and were working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable affordable clean energy they can depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Powers downtown Boise location we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40 remote. Relocation assistance may also be provided to the successful candidate.

What does a Wildfire Mitigation Risk Analyst do for us

The Wildfire Mitigation Risk Analyst is responsible for performing wildfire risk assessments and quantification in support of our mitigation planning across Idaho Powers service territory. They analyze probabilistic financial engineering and geospatial datasets along with fire return intervals vegetation and weather history to inform short and longterm planning decisions. The Analyst also collaborates with regulatory agencies to explain and support risk modeling techniques particularly in assessing risk spend efficiency and the costbenefit of mitigation initiatives. They stay current with advancements in wildfire risk modeling data analytics and utility infrastructure resilience.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Common software programs such as Internet Explorer Microsoft Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint
  • Wildfire hazards risks and vulnerabilities
  • Quantitative/statistical model development including predictive models forecasting and simulation
  • Engineering/utility business operations including maintenance engineering and systems

Preferred:

  • Data management and analysis
  • Geospatial information systems and software
  • Wildfire risk assessment theory
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics econometrics and risk modeling
  • Fire behavior modeling techniques

Skills in:

  • Strong project management managing all facets of large complex projects
  • Interpersonal communication and clear concise writing
  • Organization
  • Program planning and development
  • Issue resolution

Preferred:

  • Developing and interpreting wildfire risk analytics and metrics
  • Wildfire behavior modeling platforms and software such as IFTDSS Technosylva Pyrologix or other
  • Programming languages such as Java Python or other
  • Geospatial information system software such as Esri or other
  • Advanced application of Excel (VBA) PowerBI Access MatLab or other database programs and analytical tools

Ability to:

  • Manage multiple projects
  • Present program information effectively to internal and external audiences
  • Perform regression correlation and trend analysis
  • Create and implement complex solutions in support of wildfire risk decision making
  • Analyze root causes and recommend practical and effective solutions
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Prepare written and oral reports
  • Work effectively with a diverse group of people
  • Work independently/selfstarter

Preferred:

  • Comprehend technical issues and opportunities
  • Collect extract and manipulate complex data files.
  • Develop advanced statistical and distribution risk models
  • Negotiate complex issues
  • Conduct geospatial analysis to support projects and draw meaningful insights and recommendations
  • Ability to analyze data sets and use statistical methods to model wildfire behavior and perform risk assessments


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelors degree

OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in forestry computer science statistics finance engineering accounting or mathematics

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in utility operations wildfire mitigation or program management

Preferred:

  • Wildfire risk analytics wildfire risk mitigation activity implementation fire modeling management of small to medium scale projects

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires both office work and field work. The office work requires working at a desk/computer. It also requires the use of office equipment fine motor skills including typing on the computer dialing phones filing paper and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs.

The field work consists of meeting at outdoor worksites and offsite meeting areas. Driving is performed frequently. Lifts no greater than 10lbs are performed occasionally and occasional walking is required on sometimes rough uneven ground. Stooping bending and standing is performed occasionally.
