The Licensed Vocational Nurse performs technical nursing work in providing clinical health care to County residents. Work involves obtaining personal and routine medical information from clients administering medications and vaccinations and counseling clients on proper hygiene and health care practices. Employee is also responsible for referring clients to other Department clinics or programs and/or other health care professionals or human services agencies. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of nursing work including potential exposure to communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens.
Interviews clients to obtain personal and routine medical data in accordance with established policies and procedures; weights and measures clients measures blood pressure and temperature etc.; obtains blood samples using aseptic methods and measures blood sugar and hemoglobin; prepares and updates client records.
Counsels clients as to proper hygiene and health care practices and routines; answers inquiries and refers clients to Department programs or community health care professionals and human services agencies as appropriate.
Maintains various activity and client logs submitting according to established procedures; establishes and maintains a variety of files according to prescribed systems.
Administers vaccinations as directed by physician adhering to established policies and procedures; reviews and updates patient records.
Administers medications as directed by physician adhering to established policies and procedures; reviews and updates patient records.
Contacts clients via telephone or through personal visits to monitor effects of treatment or counseling provided at clinic.
Answers telephone and receives inquiries providing information based on knowledge of Department programs and procedures or referring callers to proper officials or other agencies as appropriate; schedules clients for visits to clinic; may record and relay messages for physicians or other officials.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Performs other related duties as required.
Graduation from a Vocational Nursing program approved by the State of Texas as an LVN.
Certification by the State of Texas as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or nurses with valid out of state licenses from states participating in the Nurse License Compact required.
Possession of a valid drivers license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas drivers license within 90 days of employment.
